Marcellus has hip dysplasia and IVDD, and he must continue cold laser therapy treatments, CBD oil, and rimadyl. He must always be carried up and down stairs and must not be allowed to jump on or off the furniture.
Marcellus had an interstitial cell tumor on his testicle removed with clean margins at the time of neuter on 01.22.2018. He had a dental on the same day which revealed an abscessed tooth with a mandibular fracture and osteomyelitis. The infection was successfully treated with antibiotics.
He is developing cataracts and has impaired vision. He also has impaired hearing.
Marcellus has several allergies and must remain on a grain free diet. He is allergic to cats so he must never be around them, and he is allergic to human epithelia so he must not sleep in the human bed.
What can we say about sweet old Marcellus? This boy started out having a rough life and eventually found his way to a family that loved him, but who decided it was best to give up him up because they just didn't have the time to properly train him or give him the best home. Prior to his original family Marcellus was seized by the Humane Society in a cruelty seizure case. Suffice it to say, this gentleman has seen a lot in his lifetime.
Marcellus has limited vision and often can run into walls when he gets excited. He also won't venture very far out into the yard without someone to follow closely behind. He vision just isn't what a young dog's once was. He's also a bit hard of hearing, but don't mistake him for deaf. One just has to be rather close or high pitched to allow his hearing to pick up what you're trying to tell him.
Aside from the health issues that Marcellus has, he is a sweet, rickety old man with a heart of gold. He is allergic to cats and shouldn't cross paths with them. He hasn't been around kids but is gentle enough that he wouldn't mind if they shared his space. They just should understand about his problems and be dog savvy enough to know that a hard of hearing or visually-impaired dog would not likely survive long if they left the door or gate open. Marcellus is currently around other dogs in his foster home and has not had issues, but as always, we request adopters follow the slow introductions instructions you will be given.
Marcellus is definitely a follower and loves to loaf around. He's laid back and tends to get his bursts of energy in the morning. This usually occurs while his breakfast is being prepared and he stands on his hind legs and supervises in the kitchen. Due to his health problems he doesn't need to exercise. He just wants to spend the day close to his human and snooze. He will explore the outside world as long as another pup is close by to guide him. Marcellus loves treats, ear rubs, and butt rubs. He will even show you his little prance if he hears the tink-chink lid of the cookie jar that holds treats. He is used to the pedicure experience, since he has been getting nightly foot soaks for a sore on his foot.
He has some great quirks, such as passing gas and startling himself or a tongue that just won't stay inside his mouth. He likes to be chased and thinks it's fun to run around while someone tries to scoop him up. If you listen, you'll hear the pitter patter of his webbed feet. Since Marcellus has a hard time walking more than several feet, one of his favorite things to do is go for a walk in his doggy-bjorn. He just loves riding in his dog carrier and sniffing around the neighborhood while the other dogs walk and he rides.
Marcellus hates crates and should never be crated. He has severe anxiety around them. He is somewhat potty trained and his foster family has been working with him diligently to be ready for his new home. That said, his new forever home will need to be diligent about keeping him to a strict potty regimen. He need someone that is home most of the day to let him out to potty when he needs to go. He knows the routine when he's let out to do his business.
Marcellus needs a home that is low energy with no rambunctious kids or dogs. The household should be calm with people that are able to give him lots of love, time, and attention. He does not do well on his own. First time Frenchie owners would be fine, as long as they are financially sound and able to continue with his therapy sessions. Someone who is home all day would be best for Marcellus. Marcellus would do fine in an apartment as long as his new family could take him out often to do his business. Hard floors would be a plus since it is still possible for him to have potty accidents. He would love the country or the city as long as he could be carried in his doggy-bjorn so that he can still explore by smelling all the scents the world has to offer. Marcellus could adjust to being an office dog and would be calm in an office setting.
Marcellus's foster mom had this to say about him: "Marcellus has truly stolen our hearts - his little face makes anyone fall in love with him instantly. If there is any word that would describe this dog it's precious. He's been through so much in his life, and we just want to find someone who can give him all of the love they have. Whenever I'm having a hard day, if I just look at him I feel better. He's got the softest sweetest little eyes - and when he looks at you it's hard not to give him a big smooch. He really needs someone who will make him the center of their world. Some nights he has night terrors and wakes himself up with a quick yelp, but if I reach down and lay my hand on his little head and soothe him back to sleep he's off in no time. He'll stay by my side for hours just cuddling and snoozing. He's a real heart-melter."
If you have a hole in your heart and time to give to someone, consider making Marcellus your main man. He'd love the company and to make someone happy. All you need to do is fill out an application for him and be ready to pick him up if you are selected.
FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo, so adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family.
FBRN dogs are in foster care in people's private homes. For the foster families' safety, we do not disclose specific locations, and we don't set up meet and greets prior to applications. For detailed information about the dogs in our care, please read the extensive bios on each dog.
