Samwise is ready to be your sidekick! This handsome hunk was surrendered by his family. They had taken Samwise in when his original owner became ill. Unfortunately, circumstances changed, and they were unable to give Samwise the time and attention he deserves. Samwise wants to always be with his people and has developed anxiety when left alone. FBRN is happy to help and we know the perfect forever home is out there for this sweet boy!
With consistent care, Samwise’s allergies are easily kept in check. To prevent problems, his foster mom wipes him down after walks, and uses antiseptic wipes on his face and tail a few times a week. Samwise enjoys the extra attention and it’s a great way for his person to stay connected with him! Other than being a big-time snorer, Samwise has no airway problems and is in great health.
In foster care, Samwise isn’t routinely exposed to cats or small children. He met the resident cat at the veterinary clinic and he’s encountered teenagers while out and about. Samwise is unconcerned with cats and has done well with every human he’s met. In terms of other dogs, Samwise lives with an 8-year-old foster Frenchie sibling and has encountered many dogs of various sizes and genders. Samwise is generally curious and has shown no aggression. He’s learning to share with his foster fur-sibling and take turns with treats, but Samwise still tries to collect all of the toys!
Samwise wants to be in the middle of whatever is happening with his humans. He is at your heels all the time, even following you into the shower! He just sits and looks, or lies down under your feet, or where you would like your feet to be! He’s an expert at sprawling on the tile floor or cuddling on the couch next to you when watching TV. Samwise is a quite capable jumper, but he's good about not jumping on the couch until given permission. His favorite toy is a Kong tennis ball. He’s happy as long as you will throw it for him, but if you don't, he'll gladly pop it around and play by himself.
Samwise is very smart and learns routines quickly. He’s housebroken and crate trained, although he’d rather not be in his crate, especially if he knows you are home. Samwise knows basic commands and walks well on leash. He's happy with one walk a day, but he'll take two if you offer! Running in the back yard is also a favorite, and Samwell’s foster mom is working on “leave it”. He is a bulldog, however, and sometimes his interest in responding to commands is lacking.
We think Samwise would thrive in almost any living situation where his people were available to him all the time. Samwise should not be left for long periods on a regular basis. While Samwise gives the appearance of being very laid back, he does have anxiety about being left alone. Samwise is generally great with everyone, but he really likes having a person to bond with. An adult or older child would need to take the lead in his care. After that, Samwise is happy with all those who give him attention and he enjoys having a daily routine.
First time Frenchie owners would be a-okay, though his foster family will quiz applicants on their Frenchie knowledge, so be sure to bone up on the special needs of Frenchies. A home with a fenced yard would be ideal, but Sam would be happy with a daily walk and trips to the local park. Samwise would do well in an office setting; he’s very quiet! He only makes a cute little impatient squeak/bark when foster mom takes too long getting his food ready.
Here are a few words from Samwise’s foster mom, “Samwise is happiest when he's close, under our feet, or sitting on the couch staring at me a few inches away. Samwise is Mr. Curious, as in why he's always under our feet. Never worry about losing him; he's right under your feet. Get the picture? If you want a close companion, and always look before you step, Samwise is right for you. He gives all the love he gets many times over.”
If you’re looking for an adorable Frenchie who will be your constant companion, then please apply for Samwise today. Tell us why your family is a great match and then get ready for a trip to sunny Florida! Until then, sweet Samwise will be sticking close to his foster family. FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo, so adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster homes.
FBRN dogs are in foster care in people's private homes. For the foster families' safety, we do not disclose specific locations, and we don't set up meet and greets prior to applications. For detailed information about the dogs in our care, please read the extensive bios on each dog.
