This handsome pied boy is as cute as a button: Benjamin Button, that is! It took a few months to unravel his secrets, but this little Frenchie is well worth it. He has a heart of gold and a soft new coat growing in, so his outside is as wonderful as his inside.
Benjamin has severe allergies. His former owner had tried for years to have them treated with no success. Finally, out of desperation for his well-being, Benjamin was surrendered to FBRN. He is on a hypoallergenic diet and will have to be on medication for the rest of his life. Benjamin needs medicated baths at least twice a week. His forever home will have to strictly follow the treatment plan set up by his dermatologist.
Now that Benjamin’s allergies and secondary infections have been addressed, he is a happy boy who loves to play with his Frenchie foster sister; he also loves walks and playing tug of war with a Nylabone. Benjamin is a happy-go-lucky dog that has shown no aggression towards other dogs. He will let out a playful growl when playing tug of war, but that is all. His previous owner had a cat that Benjamin was able to co-exist with, so we expect that he could live with a cat again.
Benjamin is looking for a family that is familiar with Frenchies and has experience dealing with allergies. Benjamin would do well with a family or individual that is willing to do what is necessary to keep his allergies in check. Benjamin is on a hypoallergenic kibble that is available only at the vet’s office. Benjamin is also on Atopica to treat his allergies. Atopica can be expensive if purchased directly from a vet, however, it is also available from discount pharmacies at up to a seventy percent discount if your vet will write you a prescription. Benjamin’s forever family must be aware that without this medication, Benjamin’s inflamed skin and infections will return. Beyond that, his needs are few: a house or apartment is fine. Benjamin is not an outdoor dog: he must be leashed if the residence is not fenced.
Benjamin has not met many children while in foster care, but he has not shown any aggression towards the children in the neighborhood. Children (and adults) in Benjamin’s life must be able to understand that he cannot have most human food, table scraps or regular dog treats. However, he does love his fruits and vegetables!
Benjamin is housebroken and loves his crate. Someone who works from home or has a limited schedule is preferred, but a mid-day break from a dog walker would be ok too. He could also adjust to going to an office with someone. Benjamin does know “sit” (with a treat) and is learning “stay”.
Benjamin’s foster dad says, “Benjamin has been with our family for several months. When Benjamin first arrived, his skin was red and inflamed, his fur was missing in spots, and he was miserable from the secondary staph and fungal infections. Benjamin was taken to Tufts Veterinary Center in November to be seen by a dermatologist. After one month of following the specialist’s treatment plan, Benjamin is a new dog. He is happy, playful, affectionate and full of energy. We have grown to love Benjamin and we will miss this sweet boy when he is gone.“
Benjamin Button is romping in the snows of Massachusetts, waiting for a forever family that knows he is well worth a little bit of extra work. If you are the lucky one selected for Benjamin, make plans to transport him, as he will not be shipped.
