Bubbles was surrendered due to aggressive behavior toward another resident Frenchie. This was magnified while she was on a steroid for her allergic itchiness. In foster care, we have unlocked a few of her mysteries and found some insights into this funny, feisty girl.

Bubbles has environmental allergies. She’d be a great city dog, away from the country or suburbs, because she reacts to: Poplar, sweet vernal grass, timothy grass, and a fungus found in decomposing leaves (basically the woods). Food allergies are controlled with a special diet of grain-free rabbit meat. There are only a few companies who make it, so her forever home must be prepared to pay for this high quality, expensive food. Bubbles must not be allowed to eat anything that falls on the floor, so her new owner needs to be very conscious of what is dropped in the kitchen, what's on the pavement, not let strangers feed her treats, etc. Bubbles has a thick palate that causes her to sound like she is snoring all the time. It is harder for her to breathe if it is 80 degrees or more outside, so applicants must have a/c in their car and home. She wants to play a lot of ball but can't overdo it or she has a hard time breathing. Finally, Bubbles also has luxating patellas and her rear legs turn inward so she walks funny. This has not stopped her from what she wants to do. She is a very determined special needs dog and can still do everything other dogs do.

Bubbles likes people, children and cats, but dogs are another story. Bubbles is fine meeting and hanging out with dogs in a social setting, but will not tolerate sharing her living environment long term with another dog. She can stand visits of relatives’ dogs, but she just gets upset to lose any attention to another dog. Bubbles has charged dogs that she thought were getting more attention than she was in the home environment. Her foster mom notes “It is almost as if she starts making up a story line about what is going on, and she stews on it, and then all of a sudden she blows up and takes action. Usually these acts are when 4 dogs are laying around in the living room while we are eating dinner in front of the TV and no other dog is focusing on the fact we are eating except for Bubbles. Bubble's eyes start darting from dog to dog, and she gets all upset, you can tell from her breathing noises increasing (usually she is in her crate at this time) and finally she flips out vocally and charges the door. She doesn’t bark, it is more of a squawk than anything.”

Bubbles is housebroken and crate-trained.

Bubbles would love someone to be home all day entertaining her but it wouldn't be necessary. She naps in her crate while people are away. She would welcome a pet sitter cause she is so friendly with everyone and is always ready for a walk. Bubbles would do well in an office as long as the owner was diligent about bringing her out often to relieve herself and had a crate available.

Her foster mom says, “Bubbles is a very silly, ball-obsessed dog. She came to us with no muscle tone and walked like an elderly dog on the icy ground (she came in the winter.) She wasn't capable of running in the past; she just hadn't built up the muscle function. She is now very sure footed and can run after her tennis balls. She didn't have a lot of confidence when she came to us, but that has all changed with the help of living in a pack environment. She alerts if she thinks there is a burglar, she has always been wrong but at least she warns us! She gets so excited when people want to meet her. They think she is growling but she is actually breathing in excitement. She is so tiny and compact that everyone who sees her lights up in smiles and Bubbles knows she is so cute so she gets so excited to meet them. She would be a wonderful dog to go into nursing homes with because she is so loving with people.”
