Buck is a sweet, spotted pied who got a rough start at life. He was rescued from an auction by another rescue organization, that then turned him over to us. In foster care, he is getting a taste of what it’s like to be a dog and a loved member of someone’s family. Is yours the family to make that a permanent situation for Buck?
Like many Frenchies, Buck has some minor allergies, and his foster mom keeps him on a daily antihistamine to keep them under control. He had a cherry eye repair and has some corneal scarring. There are no indications of dry eye from the repair, but Buck’s forever home should be aware that this may be a concern later in life. Buck has some hair loss around both eyes due to constant rubbing.
Buck is crate trained and will rest quietly in his crate unless he hears his foster mom up and about. Then he will begin whining to be free. His housebreaking is a work in progress. Buck does very well when kept to a routine so his forever home should be willing to offer him consistent potty breaks to continue his success.
The canine foster siblings in Buck’s foster home are teaching him the ropes about being a dog and learning how to play. He gets along great with them, although he is still learning how to be appropriate. Buck will sometimes approach another dog in a dominant manner and will get a bit nippy after playing for a while. He will also bark at another dog trying to take a toy away from him. Buck needs to work on respecting personal space – human as well as canine - and can be a bit hyper. Any dog in Buck’s forever home should be laid-back and patient with an excitable, happy dog just learning about his new life.
Buck is a blank slate, and for his long term safety and happiness, his forever family should be willing to work on obedience training. Buck is very happy go lucky and loves to play with toys. He likes to chew bones and plastic water bottles. He’s learning fetch. But he also chews on things he shouldn’t, can be very hyper in the morning, and likes to make sure he is the first dog in line for any attention. Buck is a pleaser, is very easily corrected and will greatly benefit from obedience training. He just needs lots of love and patience.
The ideal home for Buck would be one in which someone is home most of the day so that he can continue to be consistent with his housebreaking, and so that he can get out and burn off some energy. Buck is boisterous if crated for long periods of time.
A home with a fenced yard would be the best situation for Buck so that he could get outside and run around. He also enjoys taking his toys outside to play and lay in the sun. A suitable alternative would be a forever family in a condo/apartment who are home most of the time and are able to offer Buck a good, consistent routine with lots of activity.
Buck would be great with experienced or first time Frenchie owners, provided that they are consistent with his training. He gets along very well with other dogs, cats and kids of all ages. Buck needs lots of love and patience and will reward you with all the Frenchie kisses that he can get away with!
Buck’s foster mom has these words to offer about this sweet pied: “Buck is such a sweet little love bug. He will take every opportunity to snuggle with you and sneak in those Frenchie kisses whenever possible. His main goal in life is to be with you and please you. He deserves a home that has lots of patience and love to give because he will give you all the unconditional love you can handle and more.”
If you’re looking for a great guy who fits in just about any situation, but needs a few rough edges polished up, Buck may be the frog for you! Please click on his picture to apply for him, but be ready to pick him up. Buck is in Nebraska and he won’t be shipped!
