Sure ‘n Begorrah! Corky, the little frog with the Irish name is ready for a forever home. A lovable lug with a smooshable mug, Corky is one sweet guy. His great big face and soulful eyes would charm the boots right off a leprechaun. A playful character, he has given his foster family plenty of giggles.
Corky was surrendered to FBRN because his family was unable to keep up with his medical care. He has a history of seizures and takes medication daily. He had been doing very well and was tapering off his medications with careful monitoring. He suffered a recent seizure, though, and his dose has been returned to the previous level. Corky also has a wobbly rear, which is because he has no hip sockets. This is not painful, but he should be kept from high impact jumping.
Corky enjoys playing with the other dogs in the house. His foster family includes an eclectic mix, three Frenchies and a Great Dane. He plays nicely with them all, but his very best friend is the Great Dane. When he runs and plays, his long body and loose hips give him a funny gait that is not your typical Frenchie shuffle. He has a good old time, as long as his playmates are not overly exuberant. He likes to romp with his people too, playing chase and hide-and-go-seek, or squeaking his Air Kong toy. Downtime is spent chewing on a good Nylabone or snuggling with his favorite person, the eldest girl in his foster family.
A fine lad, Corky is housebroken and is generally a very good boy. He’s a lovable loafer who enjoys short walks on leash. He asks to go out, would do well with a doggy door, and must have a fenced yard. He ignores the cats and could live in a kitty-blessed home. He knows his basic commands, “sit”, “down” and “stay”.
Oddly, although usually good-natured, he has nipped his favorite human sibling twice. Both times were when he was startled at being awakened. He is a verrry sound sleeper, and must be awakened slowly. Because smaller children might not understand the need to respect Corky’s space when he sleeps, a home with dog-savvy children over twelve would be best for all concerned.
Because he has always had human companionship, we will require that Corky’s forever home have at least one stay-at-home person or he would enjoy being your office-mate. He cannot stay home alone, though. He hates being crated and becomes too lonely. He also hates having his nails clipped and ears cleaned – you may need professional help with these grooming essentials.
Corky’s foster mom has some things to add about our wee laddie, “Because Corky is on daily medication, consistency in giving this to him is critical. Since food is one of his favorite things (besides his people), placing it inside a small bit of human food (I use American cheese), makes this a simple task. He has a very gentle mouth and will not grab food from you.”
“Corky uses stairs well, and ideally, if he is going to sleep in the bed with someone at night I’d like to see them use the stair ramps that are available for dogs to get up/down on beds and sofas. I have a regular ramp without stairs and he doesn’t like it at all.”
“Corky has the most beautiful face with eyes that express his emotions. He loves to snuggle and be close to you. Initially, Corky howled and pined for his previous owner for about the first week we had him. Afterward, he settled in and the howling stopped. He snores pretty loudly, but we find it endearing. He purrs like a cat when getting loves and scratches. Overall, he is a great dog with a wonderful personality.”
Corky’s got a lucky shamrock, but needs your help to find the pot o’ gold at the end of his rainbow – a wonderful forever home. If Corky’s the lad for you, you’ll be driving to Northern California, as he will not be shipped.
