Cupcake is a 5 year-old female who came into FBRN with a bad reputation, but has turned out to be a wonderful little girl.

A few months ago, she was left at a vet’s office to be euthanized for her severe allergies and reported dog aggression. The vet’s office tried to find a home for Cupcake, but eventually decided to turn her over to rescue.

Cupcake does suffer from multiple allergies, including an allergy to grass and trees. Her skin has cleared up significantly since starting a raw diet, so her family should be willing to continue this diet or a prescription diet with no deviations to see continued improvement. There was a growth on her leg which was biopsied and turned up clear; the growth does not seem to bother her and does not have to be removed at this point.

As for the alleged dog aggression, Cupcake initially tried to bully her way around her foster home, but has responded beautifully to strong leadership and now happily co-exists with the family’s resident dogs and the other foster dogs. We were told she’d been dog-aggressive during the vet’s attempt to rehome her, so we know that this little girl needs to be with confident human leaders.

This sweet treat does not do well with cats. She loves all kids, but they should be 7 years or older. Cupcake is laid-back. She loves to go for walks to the store, but is just as happy to lie around. She is eager to please and is definitely a follower. She wants to be a good girl and she is--most of the time. She learns quickly and responds well to correction and positive reinforcement.

Cupcake is housebroken, and while she goes into her crate when asked, she doesn’t particularly like hanging out in there.

More than anything, Cupcake needs a person or family that is willing to commit to treating her allergies while also providing guidance. We believe she might do even better living in a city or desert where her known allergens are minimized. With the right person, she’d be a great dog to take to work, though she’d also do fine waiting for her people at home.
