Frankfurt (aka Frankie) was surrendered by his former owner because the 3 year old in the house didn't know that pulling Frankie's cheeks was the wrong thing to do, and Frankie was starting to get growly about it. Although Frankie never did anything wrong, his owners were concerned that the situation would escalate and wanted to do the safest thing for everyone involved. So, this happy, healthy boy came into our care and is now ready to move on to the next phase of his life and find the perfect forever home.

Like many of us, Frankie enjoys his food a little too much, so his new owners will need to help him maintain his girlish figure. Occasionally, when he is excited, he gets a bit of a cherry eye. It goes away on its own quickly, so veterinarians do not feel he needs any treatment for it, and it doesn’t seem to bother Frankie a bit. Frankie likes kids, but he doesn't like them poking and prodding him or being rambunctious. He is also strong and a bit pushy, so he can easily knock smaller children over. As a result, we’d prefer to place him in a home without children or with teenagers who would no longer be interested in pulling on ears and the like. Frankie has lived happily with cats for his entire life, and he’s also gotten along with the cats in his foster home. In general he’s not that interested in them, preferring an occasional sniff to real interaction. He also gets along well with other dogs. He’s very interested in canine companionship, but he doesn’t show much interest in play time. He gets kind of uncomfortable if another dog jumps on him, even in play, so he’d do best with a low-key dog who would enjoy just being with a new friend.

Frankie's activity level is moderate. Running a little bit in the backyard and going for a jaunt through the neighborhood would do him well. He loves walks but is still learning that he doesn't need to pull so hard! He's a smart guy and will definitely learn, so perhaps an obedience class would be in order with his new owner. When Frankie wants to go for a walk, he goes to his leash by the front door and asks you to take him out. What a good boy! He does have some basic obedience and will sit and (usually) come on command. He is also responsive to verbal corrections.

His favorite thing in the world is people. He loves to lick them, be loved on, follow them around the house, play with them, sit on their laps—you get the idea! He craves attention and will make sure you know if you aren't giving him enough of it. He can be very pushy, always trying to be on your lap or licking you. He gets so excited to see his people that he runs full force so he can get in a lap just a little bit quicker! He’ll need a little work with that so his pushy behavior doesn’t turn into something problematic.

Frankie is housebroken, and in general is good about letting you know when he needs to go outside. He will come to you or bark when he needs to be let out. He also barks at the door when he wants to be let in. His foster home has a dog door, which he learned how to use within the first few days of arriving. He is also crate trained and seems to enjoy his crate. However, once he’s integrated into his new home, it won’t be necessary to keep him in it.

As previously mentioned, Frankie does like his food. A lot. He can get overexcited at mealtimes, and he can get a little grumpy with other dogs around food. It’s best to separate him for feedings until the issue is resolved. His foster home has been working with him on that, and he is responding to correction well. He also gets growly when dogs are around his bones/chewy, but he’s fine sharing his toys with other dogs. Frankie is not food, toy or bone/chewy aggressive with people at all. You can take anything from him at any time and get close to his food bowl, and he is absolutely fine with it.

When in a new place, he will sometimes try to mark his territory a little bit. It is infrequent, but needs to be discouraged so that he understands not to do it. It is more likely for him to do it in a house that has other dog's scents in it. After a couple of weeks in his foster home, he stopped trying to do that altogether. He will probably try doing that again in his forever home for the first couple of weeks. Adopters should be prepared to correct him and can also use a bellyband to help with the training. One strange quirk about Frankie is that he likes to love his dog bed a little more than he should. He humps it once every evening. What can we say? He really is all boy, this one. He LOVES everything!

Frankie’s ideal home would either have a fenced yard or owners who would keep him leashed at all times. He loves adventure and might be inclined to find a little on his own. He’d do well in almost any kind of environment, as long as he has plenty of love and some fun, interactive toys to play with. He’d also be fine in a home where his people worked all day and had a pet-sitter come by for a mid-day break. He might love coming to the office with you, but be prepared, he’ll squeak and whine a little when he needs attention, so make sure that would be okay where you work.

Frankfurt is just an all-around great little dude, and he deserves the best. If he has plenty of love and attention, he’ll be as happy as a clam. This is what his foster mom has to say:

"Frankfurt is one of the sweetest French Bulldogs that we have had the opportunity for foster. He is a peaceful little guy that is full of love. Frankie doesn't have a mean bone in his body and he often looks like he is smiling. We love coming home and seeing him greet us. He just puts a big smile on your face.!"

If you’re ready to smile all the time and make Frankfurt the center of your universe, put in an application now. He’s being fostered in Connecticut and won’t be shipped.
