Franklin is a very good boy, who was part of loving family until just a few months ago. His young family suffered job losses and had to move in with one of their parents. Their two resident dogs were unhappy about the changes and took it out on Franklin. As a safety precaution, he was kept in a bedroom, and with the stress, his allergies grew worse.

Thus, his former owners decided to give Franklin a chance at a better life by surrendering him to FBRN. As stated above, he suffers from skin allergies, and his new adopters should be willing to continue with his regimen of medicated baths, allergy medicine, and a strict hypoallergenic diet. Keeping up this routine, getting enough exercise and lowering his stress levels has helped him immensely, however he still suffers from flare-ups that require increased medication at times.

The family that is the right fit for Franklin will be rewarded with a loving, kind dog who wants nothing more than to please his family. He does well with just about everyone, and gets along well with easygoing dogs, and has shown little interest in neighborhood cats, so he may he do well in a home that has dog-savvy kitties. He is a submissive dog who is willing to go with the flow. However, it’s imperative that any dogs in his new home be very well-socialized, as he tends to get picked on by bullies.

Franklin is a rather versatile dog. He is always up for going for a long walk, but if one has to skip the walks for a day, he’s happy to just lounge around. He absolutely loves playing with hard toys, like tennis balls, Nylabones, and one of his favorite activities is to simply munch down on some ice. He is food-motivated, and is willing to work for a piece of kibble (his diet does not allow for other treats.) He currently knows sit, wait, and is working on his not jumping on people, but his recall is still spotty.

To top off the wonderful package that is this Frenchie, he is housebroken, and walks well on a leash. If he sees other dogs out on his walks, he shows interest, but doesn’t pull or bark, he just waits for the opportunity to sniff hello if the opportunity presents itself.

Franklin is looking for a family that will include him in all their endeavors. He does not need a stay-at-home person, but it would be nice if alternating schedules allowed for time with his humans a good chunk of the day. He loves children, and would do well with kids older than 5 years old. However, he would also be great for a single person with the right work schedule; he currently goes to work with his foster mom and another dog most days and just lounges about all day, so we know he’d make a great office dog. Though he enjoys the company of other dogs, he would be fine being an only dog since he would be sure to gets a lot of attention.

This laid-back pooch would love to have his own fenced yard, but he doesn’t mind if it’s attached to a house, condo, or apartment. More than anything, Franklin needs a family that can provide love, toys, and who can be 100% diligent about following through on the care that keeps his itchies at bay.

If you’re interested in this easygoing guy, please apply for him. You must be willing to pick him up in Southern California, because he will not be shipped.
