Goldie’s elderly owner passed away, and no one in the family had the time to care for this old girl. We said we’d be happy to take her and see what we could see.

What we see is a healthy elderly Frenchie with some age-related hearing loss. She wants to live in your pocket and go where you go and feel your body against hers. She’s generally laid-back, but there’s some spunk in her! She tells off dogs that are larger than she, but she gets along great with dogs her own size.

Goldie moves like a much younger dog, prancing and dancing for treats and dinner with the other dogs in her foster home. In her first home she was paper trained, and she’s still good on the paper, but she’s not 100%. Paper training has its benefits, actually, considering she’s now living in the frozen north! She came from Texas, and she has not yet been convinced that snow is all that charming.

Goldie will stay in her crate if she has to, but woe betide the person who sticks her in the crate and goes into some other area of the house, or maybe leaves her there too long. The Frenchie death wail will burn holes in the walls. Goldie knows what’s coming to her. She knows her rights. If a person is home, the person should be with Goldie. Them’s the rules.

Goldie got to be Queen of the House in her first home and she is in the process of learning that she’s one of a pack in foster care. She’s a pretty easy girl.

Goldie is the first in an experimental program to place elderly healthy dogs in forever homes for whatever time they have left. We are looking for a family to take her in and love her. For Goldie, the ideal family would be adult, maybe a single person, who will give her treats and give her the time and snuggling she requires.

She would love to go to work with you, but she’d be fine on her own with a midday visit. Apartment would be great, she’s paper trained, so walks could be mere promenades. However, she really enjoys exploring a yard and soaking in the sunshine on warm days, so a fenced yard would also be great. She will wander off if she isn’t inside a fence or on a lead.

Here are some last words from her foster mom:

"Goldie is a golden gal. She is 13 years old, and is in tip-top shape. She needs a special family that understands her needs, that can make her their princess and spend the rest of her months or years loving her. The most important thing to her is her people. She just wants to be in your lap or on the couch next to you. She is little enough that you can take her anywhere, and she never fusses. She just goes with the flow. She is a sweetie, and will be missed when she leaves with her special family. She is quite the snugglebug and is a joy to have in the house. Please think about making this golden gal a part of your family. She isn’t asking for much, and she has lots of love to share! And Frenchie kisses to offer!"

Goldie is currently snuggled up next to someone in NW Wisconsin. If you are selected to take her home, you should be prepared to fetch her, because she will not be shipped.
