***Hudson has a bite history***

Every so often a Frenchie comes to us in need of some special care from an understanding foster family, and it is truly amazing what strides a dog can make when given structure, understanding and firm but loving boundaries. It is even more amazing what big and forgiving hearts our Frenchies have. Hudson is one such Frenchie. Surrendered because of behavioral issues that escalated after being tied to a bedpost to keep him away from guests and family, Hudson has put in time and hard work and is ready to find his forever home. Due to his past, which does include a bite history, Hudson will require an experienced and committed family who understands that Hudson will need daily reinforcement of these boundaries, but will do so with the love and compassion he enjoys now.

Hudson came into foster care believing that he was ruler and king of all he surveyed. He has since learned that such mundane matters as running a household were best left to the humans in his life, while he enjoys the finer things in a dog’s life. While he still does not appreciate direct confrontation (who does?), he is quite cooperative as long as his family remains calm and unfazed by his occasional grab for power. Should Hudson be allowed to regain the throne, anarchy will soon ensue, despite Hudson’s misguided perception that he can run the world. Hudson does not appreciate veterinarians and this can be a stressful experience for him, but peanut butter and patience has proven to be a good recipe for keeping him calm. This also works well for routine maintenance such as face and ear cleaning. Again, Hudson’s owners must understand that they are in charge and know best, not Hudson.

During his time in foster care, Hudson was diagnosed with a cyst on his spine. This has been treated with steroids and surgery was not recommended. However, it can flare up at times and he occasionally drags his rear legs and can be grumpy if touched around his back. Because of this, Hudson should not spend extended time on rough surfaces such as concrete or sidewalks. A fenced, grassy yard is the best choice for him. In addition, Hudson would prefer to be an only dog; the antics of others do not impress him. A quiet older dog might be considered if the right match could be found. Apartment living would be okay with Hudson if there were immediate access to a grassy yard. Hudson is housebroken, but when his cyst flares up, he can occasionally have small accidents and his forever family should be accepting of this. He is a trustworthy dog to leave alone during the day, even able to cover himself with his favorite blankie while in his dog bed. Due to his history, children would not be a good match for him.

Seems like there’s a lot going on with Hudson, doesn’t it? If you are still reading, and think Hudson might be a match for you, read what his foster family has to say and you will know why we at FBRN think this handsome frog is such a terrific guy:

“Despite his little quirks, Hudson is one of the greatest dog personalities we've ever had the pleasure to know; he's funny, entertaining and loving and has handsome good looks. Everyone who meets this canine couch potato falls for his charms and enthusiastic greetings. One of his favorite things is to cuddle on the sofa beside you, sometimes chewing on his Nylabone which he loves until he drifts off to sleep, totally content. Hudson would be a great companion for someone who didn't want to walk a dog, but have a wonderful companion just the same. Hudson's adopters will need to live within a three hour driving distance of New Haven CT, so they can meet him several times, build a relationship with him and get ongoing support if needed from his foster home. Hudson will not be adopted to a home with children or mix with children who aren't old enough to understand how to interact with a dog respectfully.”

We know the right family is out there looking for Hudson. If you feel you have the experience and love to give to Hudson, his foster family is committed to helping him make the transition to your family and providing needed support. Ongoing guidance will be required, Hudson has come so far, we don’t want him to lose ground now.

If you think you are the special home for this special frog, please fill out an application. With the help of his foster mom, Hudson will be reviewing applications from his comfy perch on the couch (provided his foster mom says it's ok!) Plan on several meet and greets with Hudson before bringing him home. His foster family and FBRN are committed to finding the right home for Hudson. The right family will be prepared and accepting of this commitment and should know the reward will be great. Hudson will not be shipped of course, so plan on traveling to meet him in person in Connecticut.
