JULES HAS A BITE HISTORY
Several years ago Jules bit someone, and was relegated to living outside for two long years. We don’t know much more than that, but it is clear that Jules is a girl who lost her trust in people and needs to learn to trust all over again. She often finds herself torn between wanting to be close to humans and then not being so sure about things. When this happens, she shows her discomfort with a soft growl and her body language clearly says " I'm not happy with this, please back off or let me move away". Jules forever companion(s) must be observant, sensitive, and willing to take their time. Patience has its rewards, and Jules is a rare prize, indeed.
Jules is obviously VERY happy to be living inside a home with creature comforts of every kind. She is especially delighted by all manner of dog toys: Nylabones, balls, squeakies and stuffies. It’s a cornucopia of riches and Jules is deliriously happy with an assortment of them. Often she'll want to play fetch with you, other times she likes to romp on her own or with another dog or just sunbathe in the yard. She prefers dogs her own size, and isn't always comfortable around larger breeds. It's taking her some time to get used to the boxers in her foster home but she does like to cuddle up with another Frenchie. She could live in a home with another dog but would adapt equally well as your one and only. She cannot live with cats.
Jules is looking for her human soulmate, someone who lives a fairly quiet life and without children in the home. Families with children and kitties need not apply! A single, confident loving adult or possibly a couple, would be ideal. She would not take well to city life and would like a quiet suburban or country home. A fenced yard would be a bonus. Her special person would be someone who is self-confident, calm and can help her on the slow road to building trust. Jules may not ever be a snuggly lap dog, but she will love you none the less. If you need a dog to constantly demonstrate their love for you by being affectionate and wanting to be hugged and kissed, Jules is not for you. Maybe one day she will enjoy those things, but for now she will give you loving glances across the room and maybe share her toys. Some days she'll even like you to rub her ears or her belly.
Jules is housetrained, loves her crate and doesn't try to get on the furniture. She will always come for a cookie and at night will go right into her own crate to go to bed, and she loves peanut butter! She can be nervous in the car but is getting better.
Jules has a great appetite, loves all food and appears to be in great physical shape.
Jules hopes that if you've been touched by her story, you will understand that she isn't a girl to give it all up on the first date. She'll want you to move very slowly with her and not feel hurt if some days she needs to take a step back. When Jules is at peace and feeling comfortable, the moments you'll share with her will be precious ones. There are millions of such moments in the future when Jules finds her forever home.
We would like to place Jules within a three-hour radius of New Haven, Connecticut so that her foster mom (who is a skilled dog trainer) can offer ongoing support to Jules and her people. If you are interested in Jules, you should plan on visiting her a time or two in her foster home prior to the adoption. We want the very best for Jules and for her family, and a proper introduction and some time spent getting to know one another is the first step toward a lifelong love affair with tender Jules. And as with all of of our foster dogs, Jules will not be shipped.
