Lamp is a busy, active little mischief maker who is on the lookout for his next big adventure – his forever home! A happy frog, in spite of his beginnings, Lamp was surrendered to FBRN when his previous owner was found to be in violation of a city ordinance. Seems they had too many dogs for one household, and a neglected Lamp lived in his crate full time. Remarkably, besides some minor allergies which affect his skin and cause some coughing, Lamp is in tip-top condition!
Now that he’s out of his crate, Lamp likes to live his life to the fullest! He loves a good walk to take in the fresh air and scenery and is always up for a car ride. Lamp enjoys playing with his ball, noshing on a pig hoof or entertaining himself with a good game of kill the stuffie, but his most favorite thing to do is to hang with his foster dad.
The ideal forever family would be a retired couple, someone who works from home or is home most of the day. Lamp enjoys being around his people more than anything, and will not be happy being left alone for long periods of time. Depending upon your office environment, Lamp may do well as an office companion if introduced slowly. Lamp will sometimes get nervous and urinate submissively when meeting strangers or being introduced to new circumstances.
Lamp is housebroken and crate trained, although he may still have the occasional indoor accident. His forever family should be committed to keeping him on a regular potty routine to help him progress forward in his housebreaking success. Lamp has not had any obedience training.
Lamp currently lives with a Frenchie foster sibling and they normally coexist well. However, Lamp has shown toy and food aggression toward other dogs, so any interaction with his foster sibling is monitored carefully since there have been squabbles. In his previous home it was reported that Lamp had bitten other dogs as well as one person, eliciting minor bleeding. Lamp tends to nip at hands while playing and if you are carrying tools he will nip at them. For Lamp’s long term safety and happiness, any potential adopter should be willing to address these idiosyncrasies with an experienced trainer and not allow them to escalate. While Lamp may be happiest in an only dog household, his foster mom feels that he may do fine in a home with another Frenchie.
Children are no problem for Lamp! He has done well with any and all ages of children that he’s met. However, due to his bite history and habit of hand nipping, we believe a household with older, dog-savvy children would be more suitable.
Lamp’s wish list includes a fenced yard for zoomie nut runs or long lazy afternoons of unfettered bird watching.
Here are a few words from Lamp’s adoring foster mom: “It breaks our hearts to give him up, and our desire would be to have Lamp with us for his forever home. He is loveable and will thrive with more love and attention. He’s a little character and charming even with his little vices.”
Lamp is patiently waiting in Arizona for his happy ending. If you think you can provide it, please apply for him. But be prepared to pick him up because Lamp will not be shipped!
