Luigi is an easygoing pup who is looking for a home where he will be loved and always have a full belly.

He was surrendered when his former family could not afford the emergency surgery required to save his life from an intestinal blockage. Luckily, FBRN was able to take him and with the help of our sponsors paid for his lifesaving surgery. The family had not been able to afford to adequately feed Luigi for some time, and perhaps he was just trying to put something in his tummy. He’s recovered nicely from surgery and continues to put on some much needed weight.

Luigi is a totally laid-back dog, but he’s ready for action at any moment. He absolutely loves tearing around the house with toys and enjoys the company of dogs of all sizes. He enjoys the fine art of being a couch potato as he’s learned just how comfy it can be to pile on some pillows and take a nap.

He can be a bit of a wild man when heading outdoors, so it’s important that he be on leash, otherwise he will take off to go exploring. For this reason, a home with a fenced yard is preferred. Luigi is housebroken and crate trained, but he’s had no formal obedience training. It would be a great bonding opportunity for his new family to take him to obedience classes to get to know one another.

Although Luigi has a great temperament he has been known to guard his food. He’s never acted aggressively or bitten anyone, but his body language shows he’s afraid that his food will be taken away. This is somewhat typical behavior of a dog that has not always had easy or consistent access to food. With proper training and time this behavior might decrease, but owners should exercise caution when getting to know his food habits.

Luigi hopes to be adopted by a person or couple that will include him in as much of their life as possible. He’d be a great dog to take to work, but he would do well waiting for his people at home as long as he could have a potty break during the day. He loves kids, but may be a bit too rambunctious for very little ones, so kids older than 6 would be a better fit.

Now, here’s a word from his foster mom:

"Luigi is a good dog, very laid-back and has no temperament problems. He jumps up when he sees you when you come in, he’s just so happy. He is loveable, curls up in a ball and sleeps by you on the couch or in bed. He is a very good dog, just needs lots of love and affection and gives it right back."

If you’d like to give Luigi a chance at the life of pampered pet, please apply for him. Be ready to avoid the gators because he is located in Southwest Florida and he will not be shipped.
