When Millicent’s chronic diarrhea resulted in a prolapsed rectum and continuing diarrhea, her owners sadly surrendered her to FBRN for lack of funds to continue the treatments and diagnostics.

In FBRN, Millicent was diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and a prolapsing rectum. Her colon was sutured to her abdomen during her spay, which has stopped her rectum from prolapsing. She is currently being treated for IBD. It has taken time and many medications, but she is doing great. She is down to only one medication and is on a special hypoallergenic diet. She has been diarrhea-free for the last month. She is gaining weight well, and feels great. Millie will always have this disease and may need to be treated for it in other times during her life. Her foster mom is a vet and she believes that on this diet Millicent can live a long, healthy life. Millie’s hair where she had surgery is having trouble growing back, and she is on supplements in order to help it grow.

Millicent has spent time hanging around her foster mom’s veterinary clinic and has paid no attention to the kitties there. She is barrier aggressive, however, so a family with another dog should plan to crate them in separate rooms. She gets along better with the terrier cross than the lab in her foster home. We think an easy-going, smaller terrier type dog would be ok, but Millicent would be as happy or happier to live sibling-free.

Here’s what her foster mom says about Millicent’s personality: “Millie has a dominant personality and is a leader instead of a follower. She is very curious about life and will explore everything. She is always interested in what I am doing or where I am. She is always excited to see anyone that comes into my office. She is my little greeter. She likes to go for walks and has a good activity level. She does get into her fair share of mischief. She still has puppy characteristics and likes to chew up things.” Millicent will growl occasionally, because she is guarding her person. This is a habit that can be addressed through training and consistent, strong leadership in the home.

Millicent knows “no”, “stay” and is working on “sit.” She is housetrained to a degree—when her foster mom stays on a schedule, she’s good. But if foster mom is distracted and misses the time for out, there can be consequences. She’s puppy-pad trained.

Millicent’s favorite thing: food. Her foster mom says she’d stand on her head and juggle for an extra meal.

Millicent would be fine in a home with a fenced yard, or in an apartment with a second set of doors to keep her inside if she accidentally escaped the apartment. She would be happy in a single person home or with a family, and she could be happy with a go to work family or a stay at home family. She loves going to the office with her foster mom and behaves very well.

Here are some last words from her foster mom:

“Millie is an unbelievable dog. There was a time in her life that every bone in her body showed. She has been through severe disease and almost withered away to nothing, but she fought back. She did all of this before her 2nd birthday. Millie is an incredible dog. She is absolutely adorable. I don’t think one person has ever seen her and not said “Gosh, she is cute”. She has a great personality and loves to play. She loves to play fight and loves to nibble on your fingers. She usually only gums you though. Millie is a people person; she likes to be with people all the time. She is a lap dog as well. She loves to sit next to on the couch and just sleep. She is a dog that will be there for you when you need a little friend. Millie is not without her share of problems, but even dogs with a little baggage need our help and our love. All she wants is love, well, and maybe food. I think she will be an amazing dog for any person or family. Millie finally feels good for the first time in her life. She is ready to take on the world and start living a fun happy life.”

After all she's been through, Millicent deserves a fabulous forever family of her very own. If you think you fit the bill, apply for her today! But remember, you'll need to go and fetch her from NE Texas, as she won't be shipped.
