Like the precious gem, our Opal is a gleaming beauty. Her coat is a creamy white, and the glow of her inner spirit is waiting to be enjoyed by the right forever home. Saved by rescue angels at a puppy mill dispersal auction, Opal is a total sweetheart who is growing more confident and charming every day. With patience and love, her foster family is helping her to overcome the fearsome dark days of her past and she is ready to go home.

A loyal little frog, Opal follows her foster mom everywhere she goes. Initially timid and reluctant to explore, she is taking getting more adventurous every day. She has figured out that her foster dad is the “treat king” and ventures into the garage to find him. A girl who loves to snack, she gently takes the treats, and is never grabby. Recently, she went along for a walk and did great, a big milestone for a Frenchie who was previously afraid to leave her house. She is also refining her people skills, learning not to bark when strangers arrive. Even her housebreaking is going well. With a regular schedule, she hasn’t had any accidents in over a month!

Are you a calm and patient leader who will continue to work with her and encourage her to grow – someone who is home during the day? Opal is waiting for you. If you work from home, she would be an excellent office-mate. With too many years spent in a crate, Opal should not be crated now. She needs a nice fenced yard and maybe a small doggy companion. She and her Frenchie foster sister go on the prowl together for treats and romps around the yard. Hopping like a little bucking bronco, Opal’s zoomie play is laugh-out-loud adorable. She is a dedicated fetcher, and will bring her toy back to you for as long as you are willing throw it. Ever so nicely, she lays the toy at your feet waiting for the next toss.

Basking in the special attention, Opal is a dream to groom. She loves her baths, paw-dicures, and having her folds cleaned daily. She has beginning cataracts, but her eyes are not causing her any problems at this time. She is a champion stuffie chaser and paper shredder who gets around just fine.

Still timid of new people or situations, Opal’s forever home should understand that it may take a little time for her to adjust to another move. A happy, peaceful setting will help this little jewel continue her growth and socialization. She should not be sheltered or allowed to go backwards, but given every opportunity to move forward. Recently, for example, she went visiting with her foster parents. At first she stayed in her familiar pen. In time, she was asking to come out and join the group, enjoying treats as she sat at their feet.

Opal likes children but the noisy tumult that youngsters enjoy might intimidate her. An older, quiet child could be a suitable companion. She met some kitties and found them uninteresting, so we think that she could coexist nicely with a dog-savvy feline or two.

Like a rough precious stone waiting to polished and enjoyed, our dear Opal is waiting for a chance. Are you a miner of possibilities? Do you have the leadership skills to take Opal the rest of the way to her full potential? If you are the lucky one selected, put on your cowboy clothes. Opal is doing her best bronco imitation in Texas and will not be shipped.
