Rockye is a suave dude who is ready to find his perfect match. We hope someone out there is his family-edition of the love connection. You may recognize this boy from the foster page as one of the twosome that came in as Rockye and Bullwinkle. They were surrendered to FBRN as a bonded pair of Frenchies, but it quickly became evident that in fact the two could not stand the sight of one another and the former was getting the worst of the deal. Both dogs benefitted from being split up into two foster homes, and behavior improved greatly for both.

But this is the tale of Rockye, though Bullwinkle will have his time to shine on the available page at a later time. Rockye was a medical mess when he was surrendered, as a result of having lived neglected in a back yard for 4 years. He has been neutered, treated for sores and a laundry list of what turned out to be minor medical concerns. His fur is still growing in near his rear, but he is otherwise a healthy and good looking boy ready to go on to his forever home and forget about the past.

Like all of our dogs, Rockye is a complex individual. In his foster home he likes spending time hanging out with and napping with two older male dogs. The thing that his new canine friends seem to have in common with him is that they’re older, and therefore have mellow personalities and they are also both small in stature. Otherwise Rockye will co-exist with, but often dislikes, younger, rambunctious dogs and he absolutely does not do well with big dogs or cats. He gets particularly bossy towards other dogs when there are humans involved. After so many years with little human attention, he does everything he can to make sure he gets his fair share; and it may come across as dog aggression towards some dogs. A home where Rockye could be an only dog would be great, but he may also do well with an older dog that is on the smaller side.

When it comes to humans Rockye has no preferences, he absolutely adores them all! In his foster home he lives with his foster mom and dad and their 4 children who range from 6 to 17 years old. His favorite thing to do is whatever his people are doing, whether it’s hanging out on the couch or going out for a stroll. He craves human interaction and is happiest when he can be cuddled up next to someone. He is crate trained and is reliably housebroken using a doggy door.

Because of his former living situation, this boy is attention-starved and would not do well being left alone during the workday. Ideally Rockye will join a family that has at least one person who works from home or where he can go to work with his person. Having access to a doggy door helped Rockye become housebroken, so a situation where he could continue to use a door that leads to a fenced yard would be best.

Here are a few words from his foster mom:

"If Rockye were human, he would be one of those bad boys on a Harley. He’s the kind of bad boy that stirs a girl’s heart with his mysterious, intense eyes and his incredibly handsome face. He would have a tattoo on him that said 'Mom', because even though he appears strong and manly, deep inside he’s a soft teddy bear. Rockye is very sweet and is very needy for affection. For Rockye to be happy he needs his human and or family to spend as much time as possible with him; but don’t even think of bringing another dog around, 'cause that just makes him crazy jealous. Rockye is a meat and potatoes kind of guy. He is eating a specific diet (that is available online and in select stores) that has done wonders for his health, and he needs to stay on this diet. He has a come a long way from being a neglected dog to being a pampered pooch. I need to know that his new person/people will continue to spoil him, because when he leaves my home, he’s going to break my heart……those bad boys have a way of doing that."

If you like what you’ve read about this momma’s boy in a bad boy suit, please apply for Rockye. You must have a ticket to ride to Southern California, because he will not be shipped.
