Sabrina is an enchanting two-year-old frog who came to FBRN due to a change in family circumstances.

Sabrina loves being with her people more than anything else – it is her reason for living and breathing! She wants attention, but is content just to be in the same room with you. Talk to her and she gets excited. Kneel down to pet her and it is like the Fourth of July. Arrive home from being away and little Sabrina wiggles and bounces with unbounded joy, whether it's been eight minutes or eight hours. The thrill of it all often makes her jump up and be a bit of a pest, but she is learning that she must have her tushie on the floor if she wants attention. (Plus, the wriggling, dancing, semi-sits she manages when trying so hard to be good are just adorable.) Because of her rambunctious excitement, she could knock over smaller children, so we're recommending she go to a home with children over eight years old.

Sabrina is a character, but not overly energetic. She has fitful bursts of energy and will get the zoomies once or twice a day. She is intelligent and when she wants to play, she will bring you a toy to throw for her. She enjoys going for her evening constitutional and likes sniffing and snuffling everything she passes. Once or twice around the block is plenty for her; she's not a marathon runner, nor should she have to be. She is shy of new people, and fearful of new places, but has never shown aggression beyond barking through a window or a fence once in a while.

Sabrina has excellent manners and is trustworthy in a home. She has never chewed on anything inappropriate, and is respectful of baby gate boundaries and other house rules. She lets people examine her teeth, eyes, paws, and ears without protestation. She is housebroken, though she has some submissive urination – just a few drops and less and less frequently as she's grown comfortable in her foster home. She has had two accidents, however they were clearly due to the fact that she doesn't like to go outside and do her thing at night in rainy, cold weather… hard to blame her for that.

It's unknown if Sabrina is crate-trained. Because she is so well-behaved, it's never been an issue. On the few occasions when Sabrina had to be separated in a different room, she whimpered and scratched at the door. She wants to be with her people all the time. As for obedience, Sabrina sits very well, stays with very clear instructions, and comes when called… unless there is something more interesting going on... Because of that she cannot be trusted off leash!

Sabrina is desperate to make friends with all cats, and this includes attempting to play with them. She could easily hurt a defenseless kitty without meaning to, so any cats must be dog savvy and have their claws. Dogs, on the other hand, don't interest Sabrina much. At the park, she ignores other dogs in favor of sitting with her foster parents. She isn't afraid or unfriendly, just distant. It took a while before she would even acknowledge the other dog in her foster home, however she eventually warmed up to her and now prefers to sleep next to her and spend most of her time in the same room, as she does with her humans. Sabrina would do well with other non-dominant, friendly dogs or as an only dog if her family won't be leaving her alone for a long time.

Physically, Sabrina is fairly healthy. She was diagnosed with a luxating patella (probably two) that does not require surgery at this time. Her future family should know that surgery, particularly as she ages, may be in Sabrina's future. She had extremely yeasty ears when she came to FBRN that required medical treatment, but this has cleared up completely. Additionally, Sabrina makes a lot of snuffling, snorting noises when excited and snores regularly, but hasn't shown any signs of respiratory distress. She seems to have food/seasonal allergies as well, which improved on a raw diet. She is a picky eater, and all but refused to eat one premium kibble her foster parents tried for her allergies, but absolutely loves the raw diet they tried next.

Sabrina will thrive in almost any situation in which she isn't left alone for long periods of time. She is just too attached to her humans to be happy with that schedule. A part time worker or a stay-at-home parent would be ideal for Sabrina. She would make an excellent office dog in the right setting. She gets very excited when someone new enters the picture, but settles down fairly quickly and is not a barker. Behind a closed door with her person, it's unlikely that anyone would even know she was there! A cubicle environment, however, may not be suitable for her. She'd get over-stimulated by all of the activity. She should have a fenced yard, since she likes to play fetch and cannot be trusted off leash. As mentioned above, she'd be fine in a home with dog-savvy cats, kids over eight or so, and other dogs who are not too dominant or too submissive.

Sabrina's foster parents have this to add:

"What makes fair Sabrina so special is that she derives such pure pleasure from the company of people. People just make her day, and you can see the joy in her face and her body when we walk in the door. She grins from ear to ear, and wiggles so hard that that she does a little dance. She leaps straight up in the air, repeatedly, and will occasionally jump on us because she is just that happy to see us. Once she settles down (in less than 10 minutes, usually), she is a happy, quiet little dog. She doesn't need constant attention, fancy toys, or dog beds. She simply wants to be the apple of someone's eye, and join in on every adventure and undertaking. Wherever we are, that's where she wants to be, no matter what we are doing. She is prone to feeling left out, so she needs an adopter who is keen on making her a full member of the family. She wants to sleep with her people, sit on the couch with her people, go out in the yard with her people while they're gardening, and go places with her people. I firmly believe that Sabrina exemplifies the phrase "man's best friend," and will be an ideal lifetime companion. A more joyful little sprite cannot be found! She can entertain herself happily (with a Nylabone) but is more than happy to let you know when she'd like to play fetch, by bringing you her favorite stuffy (Chickee, a small blue chick with an orange beak and tail.) She is absolutely delightful and fun to be around. We will miss her terribly when she's gone."

If Sabrina seems like she might be your future best friend, start planning a trip to the Palmetto State. She is hanging with her peeps in South Carolina and will not be shipped.
