UPDATE 1/21/09: I would like her forever family to take her through obedience classes. Her house training is up to 90%, even with this very cold weather (-58 this morning with wind-chill!) we have had few accidents.
Shell needs a fenced yard or daily walks and a dog park for exercise.
Beautiful and shiny Shell is a two year-old black masked fawn surrendered to FBRN when her former owner determined that she was not a "breeder." When no one wanted to buy the barren beauty, we got the call saying "It's you guys or euthanasia," and believe me, we got there QUICK.
Healthy and vibrant, Shell started enjoying life as a pampered pet the moment she got to the airport to fly to her foster home. She got all kinds of attention from kids, and she lapped it all up. No nervousness in the hustle and bustle of an airport and plane ride. This girl knows how to take things in stride.
Shell is a little on the exuberant side, so we think she would do well in a home with sturdy kids over the age of five.
She doesn't like cats, but she is a dog lover and loves to play with her canine foster siblings. She does tend to guard her precious "things." She must be gently and firmly corrected when she gets possessive of her toys, food or bed. Shell is a smart and adaptable girl and she's getting the picture. She is food and praise motivated, which is great for obedience training. She thrives on attention and exercise, and will be a willing pupil. Consistent, firm and gentle guidance is what Shell needs to make sure she learns the rules and follows them. She is a sweet girl, confident and outgoing, but if you don't provide the leadership - she will. And trust us, you don't want Frenchies ruling the roost. It would be madness!
Crate trained and housebroken, Shell is an easy keeper. Oh, she may whimper a little if she is crated while you are at home (who can blame her?), but she doesn't make anything like a fuss. After just a few accidents when she first came and was getting used to her foster home, she has been solid on the housetraining. Shell is a very good girl.
Shell is very active and loves to play. She's just learning to play with human friends, and it's charming to watch her overtures. A world-class snuggler, Shell can spot an empty lap from a mile away and before you know it, there she is, offering to fill it up for you.
Shell is a busy girl and she should have someone home with her at least part of the day or a mom/dad she can go to work with. She would love to have some human kids to share the love and spoil her, but they should be solid enough to withstand her goofball play style and old enough to be perceived as leaders.
The perfect evening in Shell's mind is movie night, snuggling up on the dog friendly sofa with her people and a blankie. Add a warm fire and a belly rub, and she may just float off into bliss land. She loves the company of people above all else and wants to be your little shadow. But Shell is no "one trick pony" - in addition to people she also loves balls and stuffies!
Shell would adapt well to any lifestyle. She is easygoing and as long as there are people close, she is game for anything. House, town home or apartment would suit her fine. She's a good girl, and doesn't make a lot of noise. If she lives in a house she should have a fenced yard. If not, a friendly dog park would suit her personality.
Some final words from Shell's foster mom:
"Shell is definitely a people dog. I have never met a sweeter girl. She steals the heart of everyone she meets. She loves to snuggle and please her people. She has a good personality and seems to get along with any kind of dog. She is very close to perfect!!!"
Miss Perfect is sitting in somebody's lap in North Dakota. Fill out an application and bundle up if you want to take her home. Shell will not be shipped!
