Symon is one of the "Maine Six-Pack" puppy mill survivors. Before coming to live with his foster family, we believe he spent his life in a cage. Now that he has caught on to all the joys of living in a warm home with warm people and soft beds (he was a pretty quick study!) he can't wait to get busy finding his forever home.
During his stay in foster care, Symon had surgery to correct his elongated palate and narrowed nares. Symon breathes more easily now and has fully recovered. He is a healthy, happy, and beautiful eight year-old Frenchie.
Symon really loves the ten year-old girl in his foster home. Loves her, loves her, loves her. We haven't seen him around little tiny kids but we'd be happy to place him in a home with gentle kids over the age of ten. He has never met a cat or a bird, and doesn't seem to be a big fan of other dogs; therefore, he would probably be happiest as the only pet.
Most of the time, Symon shows his foster dog brother "begrudging tolerance"; but one time he went after him and drew a little blood when his dog brother was shaking and growling with a toy. He really prefers animals of the human persuasion. Dogs seem to make him a little nervous.
Aside from the presence of another dog, Symon loves everything about being in his foster home. He's a lap dog who requires just that: a lap to cuddle in and a warm heart to love him. He's happy to hang around indoors most of the time and enjoys time outdoors only when his people are there to keep him company. Don't be fooled by his short little pegs; he's a quick little critter and must be on a leash when he's not securely contained in a fenced yard.
Though he spent many years in a cage and never had any training, Symon is a smart guy and caught on to the niceties of household manners pretty quickly. He had a few accidents in the house and in his crate when he first arrived, but now he's on a regular schedule and he's doing just great. His forever family will want to be consistent and constant in order to keep Symon on the good foot.
As long as Symon is an only dog, his family won't have to worry about aggression of any kind. He shows no food or toy aggression and is a happy, easygoing family member.
What, you might ask, is Symons' favorite pastime? I'll tell you. Symon's favorite thing to do is kiss. He has no interest in toys What. So. Ever.
Symon's needs are simple. He would thrive in a home with people who could hold him, give him yummy food and allow him to cover them in grateful kisses. This could be a single person, adult, or a family with older children.
He doesn't really need his person to be home all day as long as he is on a regular schedule for potty breaks. He likes naps, and could fit several good ones in while his people are at work. He would also be a good candidate for a "take to work" dog as long as he didn't have to work with other dogs.
As a lover of central heating, air conditioning and all the other "indoor" comforts, Symon would make a fine city dweller as well as a country squire. Apartment, house, or townhome would suit him perfectly. If he has a house, we'd prefer that it have a fenced yard.
Some final words from Symon's foster mom:
"Symon has come a long way from his puppy mill days. His heart has grown immensely since he has been here, and there is plenty of room for more growth. His loving, easygoing temperament is simply amazing considering his history of years in a cage. Symon lived such a rotten life before being rescued, he deserves a home where he can be treated like a little King. He would like to be the one and only pet. Symon would make a great addition to a home where someone is looking for a new family member to love and cherish. When people meet Symon they immediately find themselves with a smile plastered on their faces. He just makes you feel so good. In just this short period of time he has spent in our home he has warmed so many hearts. Why don't you let him warm yours?"
Symon is working his magic in Massachusetts and he will not be shipped. If you want to be bewitched by his charms you'll need to pick him up in person.
