Update 6/12/08- Apples is currently undergoing a crisis. Her Addison's disease is very difficult to treat because she has no adrenal function at all, and therefore has no ability to regulate electrolytes and other related, vital systems. In short, she could suffer a fatal cardiac episode at any time. Our volunteers that are fostering her, a veterinarian and a veterinary technician, are monitoring her constantly and are very concerned about her. Please keep Apples in your thoughts.
An apple a day should keep the doctor away. This isn't the case for our little Apples. Apples entered foster care only to find her frenchie self in a foster home complete with her own veterinarian. This is a little one whose Addison's disease means she is always starving. One of the first things she did when she arrived was to upend herself inside an opened bag of dog food. She wasn't waiting for dinner, she was helping herself to the buffet. All that was visible from the bag was a waggling little nub of a tail belonging to Apples.
We are hoping to acquire updated medical records but many problems are evident. Apples is severely underweight, suffers from allergies, bilateral luxating patellas, hip sockets that pop in and out while walking, and the need for surgery to correct her cherry eye. She has been diagnosed with Addison's and is currently not spayed. This froglet needs our help to help turn her medical life around.
Apples has already won over the hearts of the kids in her home and even enjoys the resident felines. She is establishing her role amongst the resident frenchies who have given her the once over sniff and seal of approval.
Apples and the daughter of the family have already formed a bond. Apples spent her first night in foster care happily tucked in bed with her newest and bestest friend. Apples has found a wonderful foster home for the long, cold winter.
If you would like to help Apples buy her own bag of dog food to stash under the bed, please click on her pretty picture.
