Dakota is a bit of a problem child. He was so bossy and cranky at his former home that he lived in the kitchen and was pretty much terrorizing his family. The week his family was due to deliver their first child, we picked him up and zipped him up the west coast a ways to a foster family with a history of working with rotten dogs. He's been in boot camp ever since, and, somewhat to our surprise, he's been coming around in good time!
Dakota's family is working on expanding his sense of safety, creating trust between themselves, Dakota, and the other dogs in the household, and increasing Dakota's confidence. He's been to the vet and he's in good shape- we admit he had the equivalent of a doggy Xanax before he went in, and though he was a bit snippy during some parts of the exam, his foster dad was able to redirect or control him so that the exam could be completed. We are very proud of Dakota. He's come a long way in a short time.
Dakota is going to require a special family with people committed to understanding and learning about dogs and behavior and healthy relationships. It will be some time before Dakota is ready to look for his new family, but if you would like to sponsor this grumpy, reactive, frightened dog, you can click on his picture. Send him a message that you think he can do it. He can be a good boy! |
