At 35 pounds, it's easy to see how 4 year old Dozer got his name. He's a big guy, a little rough around the edges, and very determined – a bulldozer indeed! Dozer was surrendered to FBRN by a loving family who could no longer support him, and wanted the best for their baby.
Medically, Dozer is suffering from open sores and itchy skin and eyes. These may be from either mange, or allergies, or both. He's being treated with Revolution, antibiotics and an antihistamine for now, with possible food allergies to be assessed later.
Dozer is still adjusting to foster care, and is having a particularly hard time coexisting with the cats in his foster home. In fact, he downright hates cats and cannot be trusted around them. This means Dozer has to be crated when there's any chance of cat contact, and he's proved to be quite clever and persistent at attempting escapes. His antics would be pretty funny, if the stakes (for the cats) weren't so high.
Around dogs, Dozer is also a bit testy, but he is already improving. He is food aggressive, very toy aggressive, and is showing signs of trying to "protect" his foster mom from the other dogs. A strict discipline regimen is helping. Dozer hates getting time-outs and is learning to avoid behaviors that get him exiled from the pack. How this training progresses will have a lot to do with what sort of forever family he can go to.
If you'd like to help Dozer make all the progress we know he can, please click on his picture to donate and tell us it's for Dozer's medical care, or perhaps some pro-cat hypnotherapy, or maybe even a new Houdini-proof crate?
