Picabo, along with her sister B, are new to FBRN and are happy to have their chance at a better life. Both sweet girls were surrendered by their owner, who was overwhelmed with their medical needs. The owner was also unable to housetrain these girls, so they have both been living in diapers for years. B and Picabo's foster momma has had a different experience entirely, finding that the girls are pottying outside almost every time they go out—at this point, every two hours. Neither girl made a mess in their exercise pen area overnight. Thank goodness because their foster momma has it decked out with soft, cushy beds for the little darlings. Aside from some initial excitement that created a puddle and a "where am I?" poo, there has not been a single accident in the house. So it looks like potty training is indeed possible, and is likely almost already done. Score one for the home team!
Unfortunately, health issues are definitely present. Picabo, (or Boo), is as thin as a rail and has a very poor quality coat. Boo is a reserved little girl (maybe because she's not feeling well?). She is also very sensitive and gracious, and is good about telling her foster momma when she needs to go outside. She has an good appetite and is having regular, normal looking bowel movements. If there's an accident in the house, Picabo is a bit too interested in checking it out as a tasty snack, but she does not do this outside. Definitely another excellent reason to get that housetraining to 100%.
Boo is on a special food currently, and has been through a series of foods as a result of her chronic bowel issues. She takes Metronid daily, and has had at least one frightening episode with very bad diarrhea. She also had some issues with swelling of her soft palate at the end of last year.
It appears as though Picabo and B's previous owner tried very hard to get the girls fixed up and frequently had them vetted. They are both current on their shots and heartworm meds, and both little girls are spayed. Picabo will need some help getting her IBD issues sorted out, but this seems to be her most pressing concern. That, and getting all the love her willing foster momma will give her. If you'd like to help little Boo get to feeling better and on track to find her forever home, click on her precious little picture to sponsor her. She sure could use a break! In the meantime, Picabo and her sister are enjoying the fresh country air and the company of the occasional barn cat. |
