UPDATE 5/1/08: Good news for Posy! In addition to the terrible mange she had when she arrived, Posy was stricken with an extreme case of mites. Despite disciplined and rigorous treament, every periodic test scrape came back with evidence of mites...until now! Posy finally got a clear scrape and though it may seem like a small thing, it's HUGE progress for Posy and her foster family! Thanks to all of Posy's supporters!

Sweet Posy is a flower child looking for Peace and Love. Far too little of either has come the way of this dear little waif in her short life.

She is only six months old, and has been in and out of shelter care since the end of June. At a time when she should be blooming and growing, her growth has been nipped in the bud. Her sweet ears which should be soft velvet petals for caressing are tattered and torn. And, her feet -- just look at her feet.

You have to wonder how all this got started. How could that winsome face with the wistful eyes not be loved and cherished? A "breeder" let her demodectic mange get out of hand and surrendered her to a shelter. At the time of surrender Posy was described as "six pounds, 13 ounces; inflamed, hairless and infected." A few days later, she was taken home by a vet tech and started recovery. She was progressing and growing hair until she was returned to the shelter on October 7th.

This wonderful, caring shelter has been housing Posy in the medical department. But the stress of shelter life is too hard on her compromised immune system, and she is regressing once again. A loving puppy who craves attention, it is heartbreaking when she has to be kept in a cage. Posy has little appetite for food, and still only weighs 8 pounds 8 ounces.

Of course, when one of our FBRN volunteers learned of Posy's plight, we made plans to take her in. She will be cared for by one of our loving, experienced foster moms. We hope that our foster can turn a tiny dog's life around. It's going to take a lot of time, nourishment and stress-free care. Shelter vets predict anywhere from three months to a year will be needed for her to regain her health.

If you'd like to be a part of Posy's rebirth, we would deeply appreciate your contributions toward her care. Simply click on her picture to the right and watch with us for updates on her progress. We'll be celebrating with flowers in our hair when Posy is well and happy.
