Rescued by wonderful FBRN volunteers during the Jewish holiday of Shavuot, this little girl is one lucky Frenchie! While using a vehicle is not allowed during this holiday, our volunteers knew that this exception was worthwhile and would be understood. And so came the perfect new name for the beginning of her new life- Shayna Maidel. Shayna Maidel means 'pretty girl' in Yiddish, and that is exactly what this little bundle of Frenchie is. Shayna sure is grateful for the loving care that she is provided with now. She adores being close and snuggling, unable to get enough of the much-needed love her foster family provides. And that suits them just fine. What could be better than snuggling with a little frog princess?

Shayna has some ongoing medical issues that her previous owner spent a lot of time and money trying to resolve, but upon his impending move, he decided that Shayna needed a new home. He left this little girl with his sister, who was unable to provide the kind of home that Shayna needed, and she surrendered this sweet girl to FBRN. We'll be working to get her good and healthy, and ready for her forever home. The most significant of her issues is the terrible yeast infection in her ears, which has almost closed them completely. She also has a raging UTI, chronic ear infections, and skin issues. All of these conditions make Shayna a very itchy and uncomfortable girl, but we have great hopes that with the right specialists, we can figure this all out and get Shayna in tip top shape. Shayna also lived the last few months in less than ideal conditions, which has resulted in her being a bit too thin, her nails being much too long, and her medical and hygiene issues not being attended to.

Shayna's current foster mom says that she spends a lot of time itching, licking, pawing, and chewing at herself. She is getting medicated baths to try and combat some of the yuckies. She also is receiving drops and ear washes to try and restore her ears to their soft, supple, healthy state. Her foster daddy lovingly administers all of these treatments that she hates with love and care, knowing that it is all to bring Shayna back to being the healthy, bouncy Frenchie she is meant to be. The vet has also found that the 12th thoracic vertebra is a half vertebra, which seems to explain the deficits of movement in her rear legs. As a result, she needs to wear diapers to keep from going in the house. She seems to understand that pottying is supposed to happen outside, but she doesn't have the kind of control that allows her to make that decision for herself. Shayna will need to be evaluated by some specialists before her various conditions can be evaluated properly and a full picture of her health and her treatment plan can be developed. But don't think this little speed bump slows her down. Shayna can really move when she has a mind to, like when there's a cat in her line of vision!

Shayna is a very sweet girl and loves humans. Even though she doesn't feel that great, she still has a sparkle in her eye and a zest for life that is impossible to resist. She is, of course, a huge fan of treats and Nylabones, with her front paws being dextrous enough for her to hold it and really get her chew on. She also knows how to sit on command, the smart little minx! She gets along with other dogs, but she is a resource guarder, so her people must be careful to remove potential triggers when Shayna is around other dogs. But when she can have toys all to herself, she says, bring them on! This little girl loves stuffies and all other manners of doggie delights. Shayna wants to play and interact with others of the canine variety on her own terms, so it is important to provide her this space. She is currently enjoying play time with the other Frenchie in her foster home and a wonderful, kind and generous pit bull who is willing to give Shayna all the space she needs. So far, Shayna is taking her up on that generous offer and taking that space.

Shayna definitely needs some serious TLC and medical attention, but we feel confident that she will get all the care she needs and deserves so that she can be the perfect little forever Frenchie for some lucky home.
