UPDATED 9/9/08:
Slava is a Russian-imported black-masked fawn. She came to us with two very bad conditions--at first we thought she just had Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and the stress of her move to foster care made her worse. But after checking with two vets, and an emergency weekend stay with extensive testing we learned that isn’t the case.

First, and most troubling, she has a contagious and very serious case of cryptosporidium, which is a vicious parasite that in many cases takes the dog’s life after a nasty struggle.

She also has Inflammatory Bowel Disease. For three weeks, she had horrifying episodes of explosive, bloody diarrhea many times a day.

After a full week at a veterinary hospital with 24/7 care, we are happy to report that Slava is doing remarkably better. She is not out of the woods yet, but she’s made significant strides, and there is now hope that even if her condition is chronic- it can be managed with meds.

During her hospital stay, Slava made wonderful connections with all the veterinary staff. Despite her illness, she won them over with her sparkling personality. Slava LOVES people and with your generous donations she has a fighting chance to land her very own perfect home once she’s healthy.

Slava is a snappy looking little black-masked fawn, born and bred in Russia. She is one year and ten months old, healthy but for a stress-induced case of tummy upset. She's been through a lot of changes, and we hope her tummy will settle down now that she is in foster care. She has had quite a history! Her first owner was a veterinarian. She fought with his other dogs, so she was re-homed with a vet tech, and had the same issue there. She didn't get along with the dog in her third placement either, so she bounced back to her number two home. Time to call FBRN! We promise to get her sorted out and into a home where she can stay forever.
