In Memory of Sophie Jean

July, 1997-December 13, 2006
We adopted Sophie Jean through the FBDCA rescue in April, 2000. She was 2 1/2 years old, and was supposedly surrendered due to family medical issues. It was obvious to us that Sophie had been abused. She cowered from everything, and was fearful of men. In time, and with lots of gentle care and love, Sophie relaxed and became a confident little girl. We made sure she knew just how special she was! It was especially touching how gentle our teenage sons were with her; they made sure no one ever teased or played rough with her. She was always so appreciative of everything we did for her. We loved her sweet spirit; she didn't let her previous life experience ruin her love of people.
She was very funny, we will always remember how she would turn around and show us her bum when she didn't like being somewhere, or after we returned from a trip! One of her favorite things was the car ride to our cabin. She loved the mountains! She'd run into the cabin, head straight for the wood stove and will it to come on. Sophie loved to toast her brindle self by the fire. She loved to go on hikes in the woods, and run through the meadows. Her dark eyes danced with joy when she could run full-tilt, and also when she found something to roll in. She never understood why we weren't as excited as she was about that, and gave her a bath. Those times, we'd see her bum the rest of the day!
In November, Sophie became ill. She had exploratory surgery where they found cancer in her stomach, esophagus, and gall bladder. We had to let Sophie go. We miss her so much, our hearts ache for her each and every day. She was the most special little frenchie, the reason I got involved in rescue, and the reason so many of our friends want a French bulldog. You will never, ever, be forgotten Sophie Jean. Our home will always be open for more rescue frenchies because of you. Sandy and Tom Isleib and Sister and Spanky.
