In Memory of Stella

Beloved Stella died May 20, 2007 after a short walk and a wonderful weekend of barbeques, walks and being surrounded by adoring humans. Her death was so sudden and shocking that months later we are still trying to deal with her absence in our day-to-day lives. Although she was so quiet, her sighs, snoring and silly antics were so endearing that she captured the hearts of most everyone she came into contact with and added so much, in the most subtle of ways, to our days. Stella wasn’t with us for very long, and way too short; however, she quickly became the mascot of the Michigan Press Photographers Association, attending conferences, photography shows and meetings. She was a great road-travel companion, traveling to Montreal, Massachusetts, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and many cities around the state of Michigan. Around town she became well known in the local pet store, packaging/shipping store, record shop and a variety of boutiques that opened their doors to her. When not on walks around town or looking out of the car window, her favorite spot seemed to be curled up on my bed, a place I swore I’d never let a dog sleep. I guess the role of “dog” faded quickly with her ~ she was family. Losing her has left such a pain in the deepest depths of our hearts. Stella was an unexpected joy, a heart-warming companion and the one you didn’t mind cuddling with at the end of the day. She is missed.
