About Simone
Meet Simone, a beautiful three-year-old merle Frenchie that was surrendered to FBRN after sustaining a sudden and severe back injury that left her unable to walk. Simone’s journey to FBRN is unfortunately not uncommon…her dedicated owner rushed her to the ER, but was faced with an overwhelming $10,000 estimate for Simone’s care, which was more than they could manage.
Simone was rushed to the ER where an MRI revealed she had suffered a concussive spinal cord injury that resulted in significant swelling, but no compression of her spinal cord. Thanks to quick intervention and a regimen of steroids and pain medication, Simone has shown great progress. Every day, Simone is growing stronger, although she still needs a sling to support her back end during potty breaks. We’re happy to report that she’s regaining control over her bladder and bowels, with only a few minor accidents.
Simone is settling in well into her foster home, even though most of her time has been spent on crate rest. Despite all she’s been through, Simone’s sweet and exuberant personality is shining through, even rolling over for belly rubs and scratches. She has been taking her medications like a champ and has already blessed her foster mom with a few loving kisses. She’s gradually being introduced to the kids in the household, and so far, Simone has been wonderful around them.
Simone had a follow-up vet appointment this past weekend, and the doctor was very pleased with her progress! While she still has some delayed conscious proprioception (CP), her improvement has been remarkable. The vet believes that Simone will be an excellent candidate for physical therapy down the line to help her regain muscle mass and strength. For now, Simone has at least two more weeks of strict crate rest, possibly up to four, before a recheck to determine the next steps. We’ll also be discussing plans for her spay surgery when the time is right.
Simone’s journey is just beginning, and we’re so excited to see her continue to heal and blossom into the happy, healthy girl she’s meant to be! Please click the donate link above to be part of this sweet girl’s journey to continue to get the care she needs.
