“Everyone that meets Missy just falls in love with her! She has the best personality and is happy all the time. She is always up for a walk, playtime, laying down… anything as long as she’s with her human(s). She is amazingly self sufficient. After she walks the yard, house, etc…she locks it in to her memory…people who come to the house don’t realize at first that she is blind. She does love other dogs although sometimes she doesn’t know when to stop playing!”

Story
Busy puppy Missy came to FBRN when her previous family realized they could not manage her medical care due to her blindness and glaucoma. They tearfully surrendered her to FBRN so she could have the best life possible.
After coming into foster care, the decision was made to remove both of Missy’s eyes to stop the pain caused by the glaucoma. She came through the surgery well and has fully recovered. Her foster mom describes her as “an exceptional little pup” who, at first meeting, you would not know is blind. Missy’s keen senses keep her playing with the best of them. This girl loves to go go go and run zoomies! She also gives the best cuddles possible when it’s time to settle down for the day.
Except for for her lack of sight, Missy is in excellent health. She has no known allergies and no special dietary issues! Personality wise, Missy is a high energy puppy. She loves to play, go on walks and sleep on the couch with her people while they are watching TV.
Missy is an aggressive chewer and loves her chew toys. She needs bones around to keep her occupied and like most puppies, she seems to test the world with her mouth. Missy is learning that nipping is not okay, and she’s a puppy so consistency in teaching her is very important. Missy is fully potty trained and has not had an accident while in her foster home.
Missy’s ideal forever home is one without stairs. If your home has stairs and you’re amenable to using baby gates to keep Missy from tumbling down, that could also work. Her ideal family is available to give her the time she needs to develop into the delightful girl she clearly can be. Children in the family would be wonderful playmates but they should be dog savvy since Missy is a rambunctious puppy. Understanding the needs of a blind dog would be helpful, but not necessary. Once Missy learns her way around the house and the fenced yard, she loves to explore on her own. Since Missy never had sight, she’s comfortable in her world.
Missy would do very well in an office setting for those lucky folks who take their dogs to work. She can also be left alone during the day, but needs several potty breaks as she’s still young. She would certainly benefit from puppy training, and the more time she has with her forever family the more quickly she will learn proper behavior.
This is what Missy’s foster mom has to say, “Everyone that meets Missy just falls in love with her!
If you think your family is the perfect fit, then Missy would love for you to fill out an application and perhaps get to pick her up as your first New Year’s activity. Travel distance is no problem for Missy as she rides very well in the car. FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo, so adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family.
FBRN dogs are in foster care in people’s private homes. For the foster families’ safety, we do not disclose specific locations, and we don’t set up meet and greets prior to applications. For detailed information about the dogs in our care, please read the extensive bios on each dog.
About Missy
Missy was born blind and has had both eyes removed due to severe glaucoma. She must always be carried up and down stairs and must not be allowed to jump off furniture.
Missy would benefit from obedience training as she is still a puppy, especially to address how she nips during play.
