Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Our alleged chatty boy, Kieran, wants everyone within a 1000-mile radius, or farther, to know he’s now available for adoption. And although he was surrendered for reputed neighborhood noise complaints due to barking, his foster family has deemed him innocent of all charges!

Now, adorable Kieran isn’t a full-time mime. He will bark under normal circumstances, but his foster family hasn’t found his barking to be excessive at home. The bigger issue is what happens when he encounters other dogs while out and about. Kieran can become very reactive on leash, barking, lunging, pulling, and sometimes fixating on other dogs or even unfamiliar people. Public places can be overwhelming for him, so his forever family will need to be comfortable managing his anxiety and leash reactivity and helping him feel safe rather than putting him in situations that leave him stressed.

The good news? Kieran is a very different dog when he’s home and comfortable. He absolutely loves hanging out in a fenced backyard, especially if there’s a canine buddy around. He enjoys the company of other dogs as long as there isn’t a leash involved, and he gets along well with both dogs and cats. He also does well with kids, making him a rare Frenchie who seems to have friends in every species!

Kieran is such a lover and a pleaser. He’s not super active around the house, so when he’s not napping, he’s probably searching for and chewing on one of his favorite Nylabones or snuggling up next to you for some affection. He is crate trained and housebroken with an iron-clad bladder, although he should not be left crated for too long without a break because he tends not to drink while he’s in there. Everyone has their quirks!

Kieran does have some anxiety around being left alone. He may try to convince his foster mom not to leave by lunging at the door as she heads out, but once she is gone, he settles down nicely. He also has a tendency to guard his foster mom when unfamiliar people come into the home. His anxiety and reactivity are currently being managed with Prozac, and his forever family will need to be committed to continuing his medication and working with him patiently and consistently.

Kieran’s ideal home will be one that understands that the sweet, cuddly guy you see at home isn’t necessarily the same dog you’ll meet on a busy sidewalk. A fenced yard would be a huge plus and would give him the opportunity to enjoy outdoor time without the stress of encountering other dogs on leash. His new family should have experience with anxious or leash-reactive dogs and be willing to continue working on his confidence and coping skills. Because public outings can be overwhelming for him, a quieter home environment where he can relax and enjoy his people would be best.

Kieran’s foster family wants you to know, “Not only is Kieran handsome, but he’s a lovable boy who just wants to please and be loved. It’s so easy to fall in love with this handsome hunk! He has such a great personality and adores being around his foster parents’ cats and dogs. He also enjoys exploring the back yard and digging in the toy box to find his favorite bone. He especially likes belly rubs before bedtime.”

While Kieran may not be shouting from the rooftops, as previously presumed, he is quietly taking applications for his new family. He’s too big to fly, so if chosen, gas up the minivan and map out your route to Philadelphia. Bring a Nylabone and you’re sure to make a fast and loyal friend.
