Abby also has a strong personality and can be a resource guarder, so she will require an experienced, confident pack leader who can set boundaries and guide her. For this reason, she cannot be placed in a home with small children and should always be monitored around food and toys. With structure, patience, and consistency, Abby thrives and shows her very best side.

Story
Please welcome Abby to the Available page! Abby is a brave and loving pup who has been through more than most dogs her age. Despite the challenges she has faced, she greets every day with happiness, energy, and a wagging tail.
Before coming into FBRN, Abby underwent two back surgeries due to disc disease, which left her with some hind-end paralysis, limited mobility, and incontinence. While her condition means she requires special care, Abby doesn’t let it stop her from living life to the fullest.
With her wheelchair, Abby absolutely flies across the grass. She is fast, determined, and overjoyed when she’s given the chance to run free. Indoors, she scoots after her toys with enthusiasm and never misses an opportunity to play. Watching her zoom in her cart or chase a ball across the floor is a reminder of her unbreakable spirit.
Because of her delicate back, Abby does need to be handled with extra care. She must always be carried up and down stairs and never allowed to jump on or off furniture, as that could cause her serious injury. She will also need to remain on Gabapentin twice daily for pain management. Abby’s future family should be prepared for her incontinence and committed to giving her the support she needs to stay happy and comfortable.
But Abby is not defined by her challenges. She is, at her core, an absolute love bug. She goes everywhere with her people – Lowe’s, Hobby Lobby, Home Depot, PetSmart and charms every single person she meets. Abby especially adores children, often crawling right into their laps for cuddles, and she has a way of instantly falling in love with anyone who gives her a kind word or a scratch behind the ears.
The home that will be the perfect fit for Abby is one where someone is home most of the time and ideally has experience with dogs who have back or mobility issues. She deserves a family who will appreciate her resilience, understand her needs, and shower her with the love she so freely gives in return.
Abby has overcome so much already, and now she’s ready for the right forever family. Whoever is lucky enough to bring her home will not only gain a loyal companion, but also daily inspiration from a dog who refuses to let anything hold her back.
FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo, so adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family.
FBRN dogs are in foster care in people’s private homes. For the foster families’ safety, we do not disclose specific locations, and we don’t set up meet and greets prior to applications. For detailed information about the dogs in our care, please read the extensive bios on each dog.
