“Fiadh is a very special and unique little girl. She’s got the cutest little underbite, and then her tongue hangs out and she gives the cutest little side eye. Story
Lovely Fiadh (say it “Fee-ah!”), crown queen of the underbite and the eyebrows, is making her debut on the FBRN Available Page. This former mill mama has finally gotten a taste of the good life after years in a commercial breeding facility, and now there’s just one final cherry to put on top – a forever home of her very own.
Fiadh was understandably nervous when she first arrived in foster care. Having spent most of her life inside of a crate with limited human interaction, she didn’t quite know what to make of a house full of people and pets. But over the past three months, her confidence has grown, and her sweet personality has bubbled to the surface. She is playing with toys and seeking out human affection, and has even shown a spark of mischief by shredding any piece of paper that hits the floor. We love to see it!
Health-wise, Fiadh is doing well, with none of the breathing issues or allergies that we often see in Frenchies. She is still recovering from a chronic, severe ear infection that was left untreated for a length of time, but it’s improving every day. We’re also happy to report that her housetraining is going swimmingly, and that she hasn’t had any accidents for a month! She has even learned to go to the back door as a signal that it’s time for a potty break. Way to go, Fiadh!
Fiadh has shown remarkable improvement over these past months, but it’s important to remember that she is a work in progress, and will need additional training, love, and patience so she can become the best version of herself. She is a sweetheart of the highest degree without an aggressive bone in her body, but she is still learning how to be a pet. This means that she is timid in new situations, and easily frightened by loud noises and sudden movements. Her crate is her safe space and must be available to her at all times. And a fenced yard is a must, as Fiadh never learned to walk on a leash, and flattened herself down into a very scared pancake the first time one was clipped to her harness. She is slowly becoming accustomed to a leash thanks to the tireless work (and love) of her foster mom, but it’s going to be some time before she can go on a neighborhood walk.
Another must for Fiadh is a friendly, confident dog companion who can show her the ropes and teach her the ins and outs of being a companion animal. Fiadh loves her canine foster siblings and models their behavior, and she feels much more secure when she has a buddy around. On that same topic, Fiadh thinks cats are a-ok, and she’s also great with older, dog-savvy children who can be calm and patient in her presence (smaller kids, with their propensity for sudden movements and loud sounds, would not be a great fit.)
Fiadh is fine being left in her crate for a few hours at a time, but the best situation for her would be having her humans around for as much of the day as possible. Fiadh craves comfort and security, and she wants to know that her family is here to stay. She might make a good office companion once she’s feeling more confident, but for now lots of bonding time at home with her people is the order of the day.
Fiadh’s foster mom has been pouring all of her time and love into this sweet little dog, and tells us: “Fiadh is a very special and unique little girl. She’s got the cutest little underbite, and then her tongue hangs out and she gives the cutest little side eye. She is the most lovable dog once she trusts you. She’s a sweetheart, and for all she’s been through to still have the amazing disposition she has, she deserves to have the best family out there for her.”
If you think you have the perfect soft landing spot for our brave girl Fiadh, then please fill out an application to adopt and tell us why! Just be prepared to travel, as Fiadh is shining brighter every day in the state of Maryland, and will not be shipped.
FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo. Adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family. In rare or unusual cases, FBRN may be able to assist in transporting a dog to a volunteer near the adopter’s home, but the expense of transporting the dog must be the responsibility of the adopting party.
FBRN dogs are in foster care in people’s private homes. For the foster families’ safety, we do not disclose specific locations, and we don’t set up meet and greets prior to applications. For detailed information about the dogs in our care, please read the extensive bios on each dog.
