Story
You may know Frenchies as “clown dogs” or “frog dogs” but what about “dessert dogs?” Okay maybe that hasn’t caught on just yet, but our super sweet Fudge is ready to make a name for himself and find his forever home to boot. He was surrendered to a shelter for back issues, found temporary care, then came to FBRN for more specialized support. He has done fantastically in foster care and is ready to add some permanent sweetness to his future family.
At 5.5 years old, Fudge is what we call a triple threat: good with cats, kids and dogs! Smaller dogs? Let’s chase and be chased. Larger dogs? Let’s also play. Cats? Has experience. Kids? Loves everyone and has been around children as young as seven. He also loves to eat and snuggle. Sounds like the perfect “dessert dog,” right? So what’s the catch?
There’s never really a “catch,” but he is a Frenchie after all with IVDD (intravertebral disc disease). He gets around really well and is a rather quick and capable little dude, but he is bowel incontinent of stool and will have accidents if he doesn’t get frequent potty breaks. When he first arrived into FBRN, he had severe diarrhea caused by hookworms and Giardia. Thankfully with treatment, the infections resolved. He was placed on a prescription hydrolyzed protein (HP) diet, which firmed up his stool but it can still be reminiscent of, dare we say, very soft fudge. His future family could possibly trial a nonprescription diet if he continues to do well on the HP for a couple more months. His GI system just needs some stability and consistency for a little while longer.
Due to his diagnosis of IVDD, his new family needs to be committed to treating any future back episodes and have patience and understanding with his frequent potty needs. A fenced yard is preferred so he has convenient access to potty at his leisure, but it’s not required. What is required is providing Fudge something he has likely never had before: a loving home where he is a cherished pet. He could also be a cherished office dog and come to work with you as long as he has frequent potty breaks.
His foster mom knows how special this boy is and says, “Fudge is just the most handsome, silly Casanova out there. He is a sweet soul who just wants to be your favorite, best boy! He will require some extra time and attention adjusting to his new home and routine, but I can assure you that this lil lover is worth it. He is even irresistible in his belly bands!”
Fudge is a true gentleman: simple, sweet, charming, and goofy. If you would like your very own “dessert dog,” submit an application and tell us how you might be the best match for this special boy. He’s too big to fly and will need frequent potty breaks from the car so plan that into your trip to Tennessee, if chosen.
FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo, so adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family.
FBRN dogs are in foster care in people’s private homes. For the foster families’ safety, we do not disclose specific locations, and we don’t set up meet and greets prior to applications. For detailed information about the dogs in our care, please read the extensive bios on each dog.
About Fudge
Fudge suffers from IVDD, has some hind end paralysis. He must always be carried up and down stairs and must not be allowed to jump off furniture.
Potty training is a work in progress.
