It may be autumn, but here at FBRN we have a lovely flower in bloom. It’s Magnolia, and she’s ready for a forever home of her very own.

Magnolia came to us from a commercial breeding facility, where she spent the first five years of her life birthing puppies for sale. She was a little uncertain about this whole “being a pet” thing at first, but has now decided that there’s nothing better than being around her people. Magnolia is a gentle, sweet girl without a mean bone in her body. She loves everyone she meets, human and dog alike, and is always down for a belly rub or a cuddle. Magnolia is also well-versed in the fine art of loafing and snoozing, and prefers a nap in a sunbeam over a romp in the park. (Girl, we feel that!)

Magnolia also fancies herself a bit of a naturalist, as her favorite activity (outside of snuggling) is watching backyard wildlife, particularly birds and squirrels. She doesn’t try to chase them; she just watches them intently. Her ideal home would have a large window and/or yard from which she could birdwatch to her heart’s content.

Magnolia is house-trained, leash-trained, and has no health concerns to speak of. Her only quirk is her stubborn streak during walks. (“I prefer the term ‘self-confident,’” says Magnolia.) Magnolia is uninterested in her human’s schedule and takes walks at her own pace, with frequent breaks to observe the world around her. If she decides she doesn’t want to go somewhere, she just sits and refuses to budge. And since she weighs in at an impressive 33 pounds, carrying her might not be in the cards. An average walk with Magnolia takes around 45 minutes, so her new family should be prepared for leisurely excursions with plenty of time to smell the proverbial flowers.

Magnolia’s ideal home is one where she gets plenty of love, cuddles, and opportunities for wildlife watching. She thinks people of all ages are great, including children, and she is friendly with other dogs (though not so interested in engaging them in play). Her laid-back personality and love of car rides would make her an ideal office dog. She’d prefer to be close to her person all day, but can also hang out for a few hours on her own, as long as she gets adequate potty breaks. And despite her obsession with outdoor wildlife, Magnolia is not a fan of cats, so we have to say no kitties.
Magnolia’s foster mom has watched this sweet girl blossom from mill mama to queen of all she surveys, and tells us: “I can tell that Magnolia is a very special soul. She is so gentle and loving. Her only negative is wanting to walk where she wants to walk. Like most dogs she doesn’t understand we have to hurry! Other than that Mags is perfect. I would love to see her go to a home where she can sit out and squirrel watch.”
