“Despite arriving in rough shape with infected ears, skin, and gut, with pain and itching, Pickle has been a happy, loving dog from the get-go, which has only improved as we’ve tackled his health issues. He loves to say hello to all people and dogs, and he’s smart and eager to please, so training him has been a delight. He loves chewing and playing with toys, but he’s also a master at splooting and just relaxing.”

Story
Warning: We will not be sparing you from as many pickle puns as possible because FBRN’s Pickle is just absolutely dill-lightful. And pickles are certainly having their moment with pickle dip, pickle potato chips, pickle hummus and even pickle ice cream! Well FBRN’s own Pickle is about to have his moment on the Available page and take it from us, he’s a pretty big dill! Found as a stray in horrible condition, Pickle’s luck and health have been improving while in foster care and he is ready to seal the dill with the right family.
Having arrived into FBRN care with severely infected ears, itchy skin and extensive GI issues including parasites and multiple foreign bodies in his stomach (since passed with no obstructions), it has been a long road to recovery. His ears will always have scar tissue, but they are in much better shape and will need routine cleaning and upkeep to keep them healthy. His skin issues have also improved after antibiotics, Cytopoint injections and weekly medicated baths (baths will need to be continued). He still has some remaining GI sensitivities so his care team has put him on a strong probiotic and a different prescription food in hopes of seeing results. His new family will have to be understanding of this ongoing situation and management.
Aside from the intestinal issues, Pickle is practically perfect! He’s been great with kids of all ages from infants to teens. He rather enjoys playing with other dogs but his enthusiasm and bowling-ball energy might be too much for very small dogs. He absolutely loves to chew things that weren’t designed to be chewed so be prepared to keep smaller items like shoes, electrical cords and paper products hidden or out of reach. He also loves to de-stuff his toys so he should always be monitored when playing with stuffies.
Pickle doesn’t require a lot of exercise as he’s perfectly content with a stroll around the block. As is common with a lot of Frenchies, x-rays show some calcification of his discs, but he isn’t showing physical signs thus far. For prevention, he should not be jumping on and off furniture. He has done okay with stairs in his foster apartment but with the future in mind, his new home might be best without a lot of them unless you’re confident in and willing to carry 30+ pounds of pure Frenchie multiple times a day if the need ever arises.
Pickle is housebroken, but if you’ve ever had gut issues, you know it can be difficult to make it to the bathroom in time so thankfully Pickle will use a potty pad indoors. He is crate trained, but doesn’t particularly love it. When his foster mom is away at work, he usually sleeps most of the time behind a baby gate and when she works from home, he’s her little (big) shadow. But perhaps the most impressive thing he has learned is the position for “let’s do wipes.” When foster mom says that phrase, he runs to his bed and pushes his tush in the air to get his cute little (big) bum cleaned after a bowel movement.
Pickle’s foster has relished every moment with him and wants you to know, “Despite arriving in rough shape with infected ears, skin, and gut, with pain and itching, Pickle has been a happy, loving dog from the get-go, which has only improved as we’ve tackled his health issues. He loves to say hello to all people and dogs, and he’s smart and eager to please, so training him has been a delight. He loves chewing and playing with toys, but he’s also a master at splooting and just relaxing.”
It will never be a dill moment with Pickle around so if you feel you can be the perfect hamburger to this pickle, apply now. Keep in mind, while he’s super sweet, he’s not a small gherkin and is too big to fly but does well in the car so a road trip to Northern Cali might be in your future. Pickle is surely one of a brine-d and anyone would be lucky to have him as part of their family.
FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo, so adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family.
FBRN dogs are in foster care in people’s private homes. For the foster families’ safety, we do not disclose specific locations, and we don’t set up meet and greets prior to applications. For detailed information about the dogs in our care, please read the extensive bios on each dog.
