“Sable is a funny, loving little companion. She enjoys being around people and other dogs as long as they are mild mannered. Size is not an issue! She needs training for being mouthy when playing. She seems to be a quick learner and wants to do well. She is very food motivated. She loves meeting people and being involved with whatever you are doing. She likes to play and also likes to relax. She is going to be a great friend to someone special.”

Story
Known for its soft, luxurious fur, the wild sable, a small ferret-like mammal, is highly sought after. Our Sable will also undoubtedly will be very popular with the FBRN crowd as she makes her debut onto the available page. After ending up at a humane society with her two siblings after a car accident with their former owner who never reclaimed them, she is ready to find her happily ever after.
This unique beauty is not quite a year and a half and has the perfect combination of spunky energy and friendly affection. She is eager to please and food motivated, which will make training easier. She is happy go lucky and loves everyone she meets. Because she is quite an enthusiastic player and can be mouthy when excited, families with young children might not be the best match. If you have kids, they should be old enough to understand this is something Sable has to work on and maybe even be involved in helping to redirect her when she exhibits this behavior. That could involve stopping the activity and giving her a stuffy or a Nylabone instead, both of which she loves!
Sable is a smart cookie and is crate trained and housebroken. While she tolerates the crate (also see “baths”), she vocally protests in the beginning but eventually settles. She signals at the door to go out, having only two accidents while initially adjusting to foster life. New adopters should have the same patience and understanding as she familiarizes herself with her new home and routine. She currently lives with dogs who are quite tolerant, laid back and not into any tom foolery. Any future canine companions should have the same motto: #NoTomFoolery. And because she has a dominant streak, any resident dogs should be relatively submissive, and introductions must be slow and methodical; think crock pot vs air fryer.
Can you guess what might be her one health ailment? If you said allergies, you would be correct! Sable’s new family must be committed to continuing her allergy regimen of regular Cytopoint shots and medicated baths to keep her itchies at bay. But the good news is, she tolerates her baths and loves going to the vet and meeting all the new people! Because she loves people so much and wants to be involved in whatever you are doing, she can be quite noisy when left alone: Metallica vs Chopin, so apartment living may not be the best match. Of course, if you’re a homebody and work from home or can take her to work, that might not be an issue. You have been warned. Sable walks well on a leash so if you don’t have a fenced yard for her to freely roam, she’d be happy with a walk or two to stretch her legs.
Sable’s foster mom wants you to know that, “Sable is a funny, loving little companion. She enjoys being around people and other dogs as long as they are mild mannered. Size is not an issue! Sable currently calls Pennsylvania home and rides very well in the car so bring your doggy seat belt and be prepared to make the trip to pick her up if chosen. She hopes someone falls in love with her not only for her looks, but also for all the joy and love she will bring to the relationship.
FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo, so adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family.
FBRN dogs are in foster care in people’s private homes. For the foster families’ safety, we do not disclose specific locations, and we don’t set up meet and greets prior to applications. For detailed information about the dogs in our care, please read the extensive bios on each dog.
