Ohhhh, Sandy! Our newest summer sweetheart is officially ready for her forever family!

Sweet. Gentle. Happy. Cuddly. Those are just a few of the words that describe this six-year-old girl. Sandy has had her whole world turned upside down, being uprooted from both her sister and the only life she had ever known. Through all the changes, though, this little girl has taken everything in stride and continues to show everyone what a special pup she is.

One thing you’ll notice right away about Sandy is that her little tail never stops wiggling! Make eye contact with her and chances are, that tail is already going. Sandy loves her people and wants to be close, so regular cuddles and plenty of affection are definitely high on her list of priorities.

Sandy is happiest when she’s with you, but she’s also perfectly content to hang out and relax on her own. She enjoys chew toys, backyard adventures, and, perhaps most importantly, ICE CUBES! Give this girl an ice cube and you’ve just made her day.

She’s also quite the little explorer. Sandy loves to dig, and if she has access to a fenced yard, her family will need to keep an eye on her scouting missions. She’ll happily investigate the perimeter looking for that one interesting spot where something fascinating might be happening on the other side. A little supervision should keep her from turning her backyard exploration into a full-scale escape project.

Sandy does enjoy other dogs and would benefit from having a canine companion or regular opportunities for playdates. She can be vocal when she sees other dogs, so her family should be prepared to work on some barking and redirection. She is a smart, adaptable girl and should continue to make progress with patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement.

Sandy has not been exposed to cats, so we are looking for a cat-free home for her. She also hasn’t had experience with children, but given her incredibly accommodating, easygoing nature, we don’t anticipate that being an issue. As always, any children in her forever home should be respectful and understand how to interact appropriately with a dog.

When Sandy first arrived in foster care, she had a few accidents inside, which is understandable given all the changes in her life. With a consistent potty schedule, she has made great progress and is learning the routine. Her forever family should be prepared to continue giving her plenty of opportunities to get outside while she settles into her new home.

And then there’s Sandy’s one-of-a-kind physique! She has short, Corgi-like legs and an extra-long Frenchie body that gives her a look all her own. Sandy was also a mama in her previous life, so she has the enlarged nipples that come with having raised puppies. That’s Sandy, and we think she’s pretty darn adorable just the way she is!

Sandy would do best with a family that will give her time to adjust, keep her close, and appreciate her happy, wiggly personality. She doesn’t need to be the center of attention every minute, but she does want to be part of the family and would love people who enjoy spending time with her.

Sandy’s foster mom reports, “Sandy is a treasure: I will be very sad when she gets adopted and miss her dearly. I would be pursuing keeping her, but she weighs more than I can responsibly handle. Sandy has had to learn going up/down steps, however, I high recommend that she be placed in a home where there are a limited number of stairs for her to navigate. She has little legs and a long body; not a good fit for climbing. So having her primarily on the ground floor should be made a priority…Finally, Sandy is a very funny pup. She will be silly and goofy which has been a real pleasure to be around.”

This intelligent, joyful, and accommodating girl has been through a lot of change. Now she’s ready for the best chapter yet. If you’re looking for a sweet companion with a permanently wagging tail, a love of backyard adventures, and a very serious appreciation for ice cubes, Sandy might just be your girl!
