“Please don’t read this to my two dogs, but Velvet, aka Littles, is the most loving fur family member I have EVER had in my home. She is very smart, and looks right into my soul when we look into each other’s eyes. She truly is puppy like in a fun way. She takes direction very well and has NEVER had an accident. Are you ready for this??? She does not snore or fart! She has the best nostrils. You do not even know she is next to you. She is not a bed hog or a wiggler. Boom….Right to sleep she goes. Don’t open a car door around her as she is eager to jump right in to get ready for a car ride. She loves to playing with her foster brother and sister. She is a big snuggle bunny. She’s a looker on top of it all. She is amazingly friendly with everyone she meets. She craves attention, in a good way. I don’t think she was loved like she is now, as she was a bit anxious and nervous when we first got her. Now that she has gotten a dose of love and caring, she is expecting this newly found love and attention. She would love it if you would take her everywhere you go. She loves adventure and travel.”

Story
Velvet was surrendered to a local animal shelter after suffering a prolapsed rectum. She was also underweight, and her back legs were weak and atrophied. The shelter staff reached out to FBRN, and we were more than happy to answer the call. Since then, Velvet has had a surgery and is doing well on a diet of half kibble and half fresh frozen food. She will need to continue on this diet to ensure her continued GI health.
Velvet also has those dreaded Frenchie allergies, for which she needs monthly Cytopoint injections, medicated baths, and regular wipe-downs and ear cleanings. This routine has helped her immensely and is keeping the itchies at bay, so her new family will need to commit to this as well.
Of course, once you get to know Velvet, you’ll agree that she’s well worth the additional work. She may be just over 4-and-a-half years old, but she has the energy and personality of a puppy. It’s rare not to see her with a toy in her mouth, with her little stump tail wagging furiously back and forth. Tennis balls are her favorite, but only under supervision so that she doesn’t eat the fuzz. And she’s a champion chewer, so antlers and tough toys are the way to go—no plushies, please, as she’s likely to disembowel them and we can’t have her eating any stuffing! Velvet also loves neighborhood walks and road trips in the car, not to mention playing with her Frenchie foster siblings. She would definitely do best in a home with another playful Frenchie or similarly sized dog.
Velvet is extremely attached to her humans, and even when she’s playing, she wants to know where her people are at all times. She will cry and whine a little if her human is nearby and not paying attention to her, but this behavior has been decreasing over time, and we think it will cease once she realizes that she is truly in her forever home and that no one is going to leave her behind. Velvet is a gold star snuggler and A-plus cuddler, and will happily be the little spoon if you let her sleep in the people bed (although she also loves snoozing with the resident canines.) She is an absolute love! Oh, and did we mention that Velvet is house-trained, crate-trained, and leash-trained? She also knows her basic commands. What we’re trying to say here is that she is a very, very good girl.
The ideal home for Velvet is one where she has tons of attention and doesn’t have to spend much time alone. She’s an excellent traveler and would make a perfect office dog, so she’d do well with a family who wants to integrate her into their daily activities and vacations. She’d do best with another canine companion, although she’s not been cat tested so we have to say no to homes with kitties. As for kids, Velvet has been gentle with every person she’s come across, but any children in her forever family should be older and dog-savvy. This is because Velvet’s diet and eating must be very carefully monitored, and as any parent can tell you, younger kiddos aren’t always the best at keeping food off the floor. Remember, no matter what kind of puppy eyes she gives you, no table scraps!
Velvet’s foster mom is understandably over the moon with her little bat-eared buddy, and tells us, “Please don’t read this to my two dogs, but Velvet, aka Littles, is the most loving fur family member I have EVER had in my home. She is very smart, and looks right into my soul when we look into each other’s eyes. She truly is puppy like in a fun way. She takes direction very well and has NEVER had an accident. Well, if that isn’t a ringing endorsement, we don’t know what is! Velvet is going to make some lucky family very, very happy. If you’d like it to be yours, please fill out an application and tell us why you and Velvet would make the perfect match. Just be prepared to travel, Velvet is wagging her tail nubbin in the beautiful Bay Area, and will not be shipped.
FBRN dogs are in foster care in people’s private homes. For the foster families’ safety, we do not disclose specific locations, and we don’t set up meet and greets prior to applications. For detailed information about the dogs in our care, please read the extensive bios on each dog.
