“Winston’s original name is Buc Siew which means “best friend” in Lao and that is exactly what he is looking for: a best friend. He does not want to be alone. He needs to be part of the family. He needs to be acknowledged. He needs to be reassured. He is smart. He is sensitive. He is connected. I’m hoping for an adopter who will make Winston their world.”

Story
Meet Winston! Five-year-old Winston came into FBRN’s care after his owner passed away. He and his brother were lovingly surrendered by the family so they could receive the care and stability they deserve. Winston has adjusted well in his foster home and has shown himself to be a deeply connected and sensitive dog who thrives on companionship. This handsome pied gentleman is happiest when he is close to his people.
Winston has several medical needs that are currently well managed. He has chronic allergies and must remain on daily Apoquel along with regular medicated baths to keep his skin comfortable. Winston also lost his right eye in 2025 due to a prior injury, but he has adapted beautifully and navigates his environment with confidence. His vision impairment does not slow him down, and he continues to enjoy walks, playtime, and daily activities.
In his foster home, Winston has proven to be house trained, intelligent, and eager to please. He enjoys learning, responds well to guidance, and looks to his people for reassurance and direction. He loves daily walks, plush toys, and cuddling close, often burying his face into his person’s lap. Winston is vocal at times and will alert you to activity around the home, but he settles well when reassured.
Winston gets along well with other dogs and has lived successfully with cats. He would benefit from a home with another dog or animal companion, as he prefers not to be alone for long periods. He is a social dog who thrives when he feels included and part of a pack.
Winston does have resource guarding tendencies, particularly around food and high value items. These behaviors are manageable with structure, supervision, and clear leadership. Because of this, Winston must be placed in an adult only home or one with older, dog savvy teens. His adopter should be experienced, confident, and committed to providing consistent boundaries and guidance.
Winston would do well in either a house or apartment and would especially enjoy a fenced yard, though daily walks are important for his physical and mental well-being. He travels well in the car and would happily accompany his person on outings and adventures. A home where someone is present much of the day, or able to provide midday interaction, would help Winston feel secure and fulfilled.
Winston’s foster mom has this to say, “Winston’s original name is Buc Siew which means “best friend” in Lao and that is exactly what he is looking for: a best friend. He does not want to be alone. He needs to be part of the family. He needs to be acknowledged. He needs to be reassured. He is smart. He is sensitive. He is connected. I’m hoping for an adopter who will make Winston their world.”
FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo, so adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family.
FBRN dogs are in foster care in people’s private homes. For the foster families’ safety, we do not disclose specific locations, and we don’t set up meet and greets prior to applications. For detailed information about the dogs in our care, please read the extensive bios on each dog.
