About Chicago
If you follow FBRN on the socials, then you’ve already met our sweet girl Chicago, who’s been through the wringer and then some since her surrender to FBRN earlier this month. But thanks to her incredible veterinary team, her foster family, and contributions from our supporters (that’s you!), she’s ready to give us all a little razzle-dazzle with her debut on the FBRN website.
At just one year old, poor Chicago suffered a severe vaginal prolapse (don’t Google it; it’s as awful as it sounds) that went untreated for the better part of a month. We can’t even fathom how much pain she must have been in. She entered FBRN as an emergency intake and was rushed to ER vet, who told us it was the worst prolapse he’d ever seen. Chicago immediately underwent surgery, during which her veterinary team sutured the prolapsed tissue back into place. Fortunately, the sutures held up, which meant it was time for another procedure–this time to close up a gap in the tissue caused by the severity of the prolapse. But there was still more to come, as Chicago needed yet another surgery to repair a hiatal hernia, along with a spay. It’s always a little nerve-wracking when our dogs have to undergo so many procedures, so we were all holding our collective breath–and crossing fingers and paws–that everything would go smoothly.
We are thrilled to report that Chicago made it through all of her surgeries like an absolute champion, and is well on her way to recovery. We’re still taking things one day at a time, especially since she has been having some regurgitation that we’ll need to get to the bottom of. But it has been a joy to see Chicago get that sparkle back in her eye, especially as she trots through the garden (resplendent in her lampshade collar) or when she selects a favorite plushie from the toy bin. She’s still got a lot of healing to do, but her future is as bright as the Windy City skyline.
When we put out the call for donations to Chicago’s hospital fund, you answered, and we couldn’t be more grateful. Your support really, truly saved a life! Unfortunately, the vet bills just keep on coming, so we are still gratefully accepting contributions toward Chicago’s ongoing medical costs (and chew toy fund). If you’d like to sponsor this beautiful pup as she continues her journey to health and a forever home, just click on that “donate” link and tell us it’s for Chicago. She will be sure to thank you with a gentle lick and that winning Frenchie smile!
