The newest confection to appear in the FBRN candy jar is 36 pounds of pure Frenchie love. Meet Toffee!

This king-sized sweetie has already made himself right at home with his foster family. After slow introductions, he’s getting along famously with the resident pug and Frenchie, and he’s taken to snuggling up at night with his young human foster sibling (much to her delight). Toffee is a busy boy who loves to play and go on neighborhood walks, where he particularly enjoys sniffing all the wonderful things there are to be sniffed. When he picks up speed, he looks more like a running bear than a bulldog!

Toffee also seems to enjoy the sound of his own voice, by which we mean he’s a barker. He barks to get attention, he barks when he wants to play, and he also barks at stationary objects including garbage cans, plants, and his own reflection in the mirror. Clearly this guy has a lot to say! He also seems to think that fluffy rugs are interchangeable with grass, so those have gone away for the time being. But other than those two little quirks, he’s proven himself to be a pretty perfect houseguest. Leash-trained, house-trained, great during car rides…who could ask for anything more?

At his first vet appointment, Toffee was diagnosed with an ear infection, fleas, and dermatitis. We’ll be keeping on eye out to see whether the fleas were the cause of his itchies, or whether some allergy treatment might be necessary. We also might try out some different diets, as Toffee (somewhat shockingly) just isn’t that into his food! It’s not a medical thing; he’s just a picky eater. “I prefer the term ‘discerning palate,'” says Toffee.
