Story
Avalon could not be more pleased to join the FBRN family. This adorable three-year-old girl came to FBRN from a commercial breeding facility. She arrived in rough shape with her most recent c-section scar infected and open.
Healthwise, now that she has been spayed and her c-section incision is healed, Avalon is in excellent shape and is finally pain free. She is on regular food, shows no signs of allergies and is currently taking no medications! Wow! Avalon does have occasional accidents, so potty training is on-going. Her favorite safe space is her crate, which she goes to during the day and at night when the door is open. While she feels comfortable in her crate, she would much rather sleep in bed with foster mom. Who can blame her!
Avalon is painfully shy and nervous about anything new or different. Of course, this is the condition of many former breeders when they arrive at FBRN. Foster mom says she is starting to learn the ropes of pet life and is settling in well. She doesn’t understand playing just yet, but she loves her foster fur siblings and the farm animals at her foster home. Her foster home is in the country and she loves running around outside. Foster mom has introduced toys – squeak toys, ropes, balls and stuffies. She is a little bit confused as to what these are, but in time she will begin to appreciate them. Avalon is also a bit fearful of being walked on a leash. Because leashes are still scary for her, a fenced yard is required.
Avalon’s ideal home would be in a suburban or rural area that is quiet and where she can be outside and play. She would do well in a home with a relatively calm atmosphere. Foster mom says the daily chaos in her home is a bit much for Avalon. Someone home during the day would be ideal since Avalon still has a lot to learn. However, she does well in her crate with potty breaks, so alone time can be managed.
Despite Avalon’s shyness, she loves people and pets. It just takes her some time to warm up to new people. She has gone to work with foster mom and managed very well as long as people know to let her approach rather than coming to her, which is still scary at this point. Foster mom wants her forever family to realize that it will be normal for Avalon to shut down at first, going to yet another home. However, once she realizes she is safe, she should open back up quickly and settle into her wonderful new life.Avalon’s foster mom wants you to know, “Avalon is an absolute sweetheart. We call her Princess. She has come out of her shell so much in the time she has been with us. She loves people and attention.”
FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo, so adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family. Avalon would love to have you fill out an application and perhaps get to pick her up and take her to her forever home. The sooner Avalon gets to her forever home, the sooner she can stop being nervous about her security. Car travel is no problem for Avalon.
FBRN dogs are in foster care in people’s private homes. For the foster families’ safety, we do not disclose specific locations and we do not set up meet and greets prior to applications. For detailed information about the dogs in our care, please read the extensive bios on each dog.
