Cappuccino has a history of IVDD. He had a hemilaminectomy prior to coming into FBRN’s care and has limited hind-end mobility. Cappuccino is continent of bowel and bladder functions but may have occasional accidents in the house. He must always be carried up and down stairs and must not be allowed to jump on or off the furniture.

Everyone’s favorite jumping bean, Cappuccino, is primed and ready for adoption! After his former owners realized they didn’t have enough time to see Cappuccino through his rehab following back surgery in May 2020, he was surrendered to FBRN. With the help and dedication of his foster family, Cappuccino is now walking his way onto the available page! His transformation has been nothing short of remarkable.

Coming into foster care, Cappuccino was barely able to walk a few yards. He has gained enough stamina and strength to walk almost half a mile without tiring and continued physical therapy and conditioning will ensure his continued success. This pup must be running on caffeine because he is an energizer bunny when it comes to playing fetch! When he is overly excited or running after his ball, he doesn’t have as much control over his hind legs and his back paws will drag. He will need to be monitored for skin breakdown and sores.

His new family also needs to ensure he doesn’t jump up or down off of furniture to prevent future injuries. He shouldn’t be walking up and down stairs on his own either, so if you have a 30-pound sack of coffee beans lying around, start carrying that baby up and down any stairs and gently placing it on and off any furniture. If this exercise doesn’t deter you, then you could be in the running for Cappuccino’s future family!

This addictive cup of a pup gets along with his foster Frenchie sister (after slow intros), has lived with a cat and Pomeranian in his previous home and has done well with kids as young as 7 years old. However, we wouldn’t recommend a household with younger children – not only is Cappuccino a 28-pound energetic bowling ball of furriness; he also needs careful handling due to his previous back surgery.

Cappuccino is housetrained but due to his back injury, he may not be able to hold his bladder and bowels for as long as “normal” dogs. Please expect some accidents as he acclimates to his new home and schedule. While in foster care, consistent feeding schedules and frequent potty breaks have proven to be the recipe for accident-free success. While Cappuccino may look like a mischief-maker, he is not! We’re just as shocked as you are. He sleeps in his crate like a little angel baby and has never shown any destructive behavior unless he is chewing on his own designated toys and chews. Cappuccino is food motivated and eager to please, if not a little stubborn. News flash! Frenchies can be stubborn! His favorite pastime, when he’s not playing fetch, is snuggling with his humans.

The easiest transition for Cappuccino and his new family would include someone who has a flexible work schedule or works from home so he can have multiple potty breaks throughout the day. He will thrive with lots of human attention, as well as physical and mental stimulation. If you’re lucky enough to have a dog-friendly office, we think he would love schmoozing your coworkers and providing them with an energizing midday pick-me-up that only Cappuccino can provide.

His foster family would “love to see Cappuccino in a home that will give him the love and attention that he deserves. He is a wonderful, loving dog who is sweet with adults, children, and other pets. He would really do great with a patient family that has experience with [limited mobility] back-leg dogs who could spend time working with him to strengthen his physical health. He is a little bit of a clumsy bowling ball, jumpy bean with a lot of energy so it would be great for him to have an outlet. While he may need a little extra care, he will return the favor tenfold with unlimited kisses and endless love. He does not let anything slow him down and wants to be close to his humans. He would love a family that loves to take dog-friendly adventures as Chino travels very well and is always up for trying new things.”

Although, flying cannot be one of those new things because Cappuccino is too big and he definitely exceeds the 3-ounce liquid rule!
