“Dexter was just skin and bones when he came to us at 7-8 months old. He had bloody diarrhea and had obviously been mistreated and neglected. As you can imagine, this must have been very traumatic for him but with that being said, he was the most loveable/trusting little guy who stole our hearts immediately. Dexter is a Velcro baby and will follow you everywhere and even lay across your body at night just to make sure you don’t leave him. He has FOMO and can be very vocal about it. He’s still just a baby and deserves a home that will want to cuddle him, take him places and simply reassure him that he’s ok and you are not abandoning him.”

Story
Dexter’s forever family should be dedicated to his future care and understanding of his current behavior complications. He currently suffers from anxiety and will need to remain on Trazadone while he continues behavioral training to address his separation anxiety. Dexter must also continue his daily regime of probiotics, to help with his colitis and IBD, and also, his special diet, medicated baths, and regular Cytopoint shots to keep the dreaded Frenchie itchies at bay.
We realize that may sound like a lot, but it’s absolutely worth it for sweet Dexter! This boy is so resilient and has maintained such a sweet and loving disposition throughout his time in foster care. Dexter interacts well with children when he’s out and about, remaining very calm when children approach him. Dexter loves other dogs as well! He gets along great with the resident dogs in his foster home and loves to play with them and snuggle. Dexter is very sociable when meeting other dogs and would likely enjoy a canine companion.
Dexter is still a playful puppy with bouts of activity followed by nap breaks during the day! He is always happy to simply cuddle with his human, and he’s a textbook Velcro pup who will follow his human everywhere. If you value your privacy, Dexter is not the pup for you! Dexter loves to chew his Benebone and play with stuffies, he also loves walking the neighborhood and lounging in the backyard.
As mentioned, Dexter has separation anxiety. He can get very stressed when left alone and has lashed out through biting. Dexter will require a firm hand and continued training to address this behavior. He should not be around small children and should be monitored during feed times and when toys are present. He does not do well in a crate; confinement will cause increased stress and a colitis flare up. Luckily, Dexter is smart and responds well to positive training. His foster mom already taught him sit, stay, and is working on down.
Dexter’s ideal forever family would have experience with separation anxiety and a commitment to working through this behavioral concern. He would do best with a family that is home more often than not; someone who works from home or is retired would be best. Dexter enjoys being part of a pack and would enjoy having another dog in the home. A first time Frenchie family would be fine, as long as they understand the cost and time involved with Dexter’s special diet and medication.
Dexter loves the car and enjoys going on car rides sitting in his booster seat. He is well behaved in public and could easily adjust to an office setting.
Dexter’s foster mom has this to say, “Dexter was just skin and bones when he came to us at 7-8 months old.
If you feel your family is a good fit for Dexter, please submit your application and tell us why. Then get ready for an adventure in sunny Florida because if you are selected as Dexter’s forever family, you’ll need to pick him up!
FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo, so adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family.
FBRN dogs are in foster care in people’s private homes. For the foster families’ safety, we do
not disclose specific locations, and we don’t set up meet and greets prior to applications. For detailed information about the dogs in our care, please read the extensive bios on each dog.
