“Emily is really the sweetest; she loves everyone she meets and will try to steal kisses at every opportunity. She is a small dog with a big heart. She does require a lot of work to keep up with her allergy care but it is all worth it when we see how much she has improved and how much love she gives back to her family. She is really a great dog that can fit into most environments and we are sure will make her forever family the happiest. It will not be easy to see her leave but we know the perfect family for her is out there.”

Story
Emily is as affectionate as they come. She absolutely loves her people and has been around kids as young as four. While she will occasionally play with the resident canines, she is more content to find a human lap to cuddle up against and a face to lick. She definitely does not like larger dogs so any potential canine siblings must be of similar size or smaller. She also has a dominant streak so neutral or submissive pups would be the best match. When she first arrived in foster care, she was protective of her toys and food but has not shown that behavior since acclimating. However, out of abundance of caution, Emily should be fed separately from any resident dogs and carefully monitored around toys, dogs, and children. As always, slow introductions to resident pets are required and necessary to ensure the best transition possible. While Emily has only interacted with female dogs in her foster home, she doesn’t seem to be reactive to the male neighbor dogs.
With so many wonderful attributes, don’t let the list of health considerations deter you from learning all about the real Emily. Her allergy management regimen isn’t really any more complex than some people’s own vitamin or skin-care routine (you know who you are) and Emily is worth it! She has several allergies but the most prominent are her allergies to dust and storage mites. She must never be given dry kibble or dry treats. She is currently on Farmer’s Dog food, Cytopoint injections, supplements and receives daily ear cleaning and weekly medicated baths. This routine has really improved Emily’s health and comfort. Potential adopters should be prepared to continue this lifetime management and be aware there is a chance she may need ear surgery (total ear canal ablation) in the future due to polyps caused by years of chronic ear infections. Emily is somewhat hearing impaired, beyond the normal selective Frenchie hearing, so louder voices may be necessary at times. In addition, her liver enzymes and adrenal mass should be regularly checked to ensure need for any future intervention.
Emily would love a person, or more than one, who could be home often. She thrives on human companionship. This would not only help with her potty training schedule, but also her belly rubbing schedule! Emily needs to be taken out quite often for potty breaks to avoid accidents inside. She doesn’t need frequent exercise so a house or apartment would work fine, but wherever she lives, it must be kept as clean and dust free as possible which means no carpet. Those pesky dust mites must be kept at bay to prevent allergy flare ups. Emily is content to chew on a Nylabone or de-stuff a stuffy in record time so keep an eye on the fluff. If you are lucky enough to work in a dog-friendly workplace, Emily can be your sidekick and the most popular “employee.” She is quiet, laidback and enjoys all the people so she could do well in that setting.
Her foster family is smitten saying, “Emily is really the sweetest; she loves everyone she meets and will try to steal kisses at every opportunity.
Do you think you are the perfect fit for Emily? Fill out an application and tell is why. If chosen, pack some sweaters and plan your trip to Northern Illinois. While she is small enough to fit under the seat in a plane, she doesn’t have any experience flying so a car trip might be the safest bet. She absolutely loves car rides and can’t wait to meet you!
FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo, so adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family.
FBRN dogs are in foster care in people’s private homes. For the foster families’ safety, we do not disclose specific locations and we do not set up meet and greets prior to applications. For detailed information about the dogs in our care, please read the extensive bios on each dog.
