Gilda came to FBRN under very unfortunate circumstances. Her previous owner passed away and her extended family surrendered her to find a loving forever family. When she arrived at her foster home, she needed a little TLC. Her ears were infected, nails were long, and she was a little overweight. These issues were addressed and this beautiful lady is ready for adoption! Foster mom reports Gilda is very affectionate and loves to nap on mom’s lap whenever possible.

Gilda has no known allergies and is not on any medication. She does eat a special diet of trout and salmon dog food. She has impaired hearing, likely due to a long history of ear infections. Going forward, Gilda’s ears will have to be cleaned weekly to avoid future infections. During winter months Gilda has a tendency for eating her feces. Foster mom reports that she does not seem to do this during warm weather months.

Though she generally gets along with the other Frenchie in her foster home, there were a few fights. Gilda has resourcing guarding tendencies. Foster mom reports one fight when the resident dog was sniffing a new bed and another when the resident dog tried to climb in bed with Gilda. Neither fight involved a trip to the vet, but Gilda did scrape the other dog’s cheek. Due to her resource guarding, Gilda must always be monitored while feeding and when toys are involved. A slow introduction period must be followed if there are other dogs in the house.

In true Frenchie fashion, Gilda is one stubborn girl! She is working on learning basic commands like sit and stay but she is a slow learner. Gilda knows to go potty outside, but that doesn’t stop her from having accidents in the house. Foster mom is working on bell training, though it’s been a slow process. She does not enjoy being created and will let you know, noisily! When left unsupervised, Gilda has a tendency to chew things that do not belong to her including wood, cardboard, and plastic. She is a nester as well; she enjoys cuddling on the couch but foster mom recommends adding a throw blanket to avoid scratching the couch cushions.

Despite her stubborn nature, Gilda has a sweet personality. She is extremely affectionate and a true couch potato. She loves spending her time sleeping and cuddling with her foster mom. Her favorite activities also include chewing on her bones and stuffed toys. She is good on leash but is a slow walker – this little lady enjoys a leisurely stroll!

Gilda’s ideal home would include a single person or a family with no young children. She is very relaxed and would do well in a mellow household without a lot of activity. Gilda would do well in either an apartment or house. She is used to being home with foster mom all day and would ideally land with a forever family where someone could be home with her. Gilda would not do well left alone for long periods of time, but she would be a perfect office companion for those who are lucky enough to take their dog to work.

Foster mom says “Gilda is the sweetest laid-back Frenchie. Her day usually consists of sleeping and wanting to be next to me cuddling. She’s definitely not for an active family or a very busy household. She’s very calm and shy and would prefer to be in a household with no other dogs or young children. She would definitely be a great addition to a very quiet home.”
