“Hattie is a sweet little girl who has not been dealt the best hand in her life so far. Due to this she is very reserved. Her trust is not easily given, but earned. Once this girl creates that bond with her people, she truly shines. Her perfect family is going to need patience, and to show her that she is safe. Then every day you will see this girl shine and show the love she has to give. I have been very lucky to see this process and the rewards patience has with her. If you’re looking for a sweet lovable pup and can give this girl your patience, I assure you she is worth it and more.”

Story
This honey-pied beauty arrived in FBRN care from a commercial breeding facility and she’s still fairly new to this whole “being a pet” thing. Hattie has made so much progress under the loving watch of her foster mom, but she still has some nervousness and quirks that are typical of dogs who are unfamiliar with living in a home. Hattie is skittish around strangers, and when she gets nervous, she retreats to her crate or her “safe space”, which is just her little hidey-spot behind the recliner. But once Hattie feels comfortable, she gets a twinkle in her eye and a wiggle in her bootie, and you might even get a waggle of her little nubbin tail!
The ideal home for Hattie is one with patient, loving people, who will give Hattie the time she needs to decompress and come out of her shell. Hattie promises that she is worth the wait! A friendly resident dog or two is also a must, as Hattie loves being around other canines and relies on them to show her the ropes. She currently has two Frenchie foster siblings, and while she hasn’t quite figured out how to engage them in play, she clearly enjoys their company. Cats are just fine too, as Hattie is largely unbothered by other furry critters. Children are also okay in Hattie’s book, although she wouldn’t do well in house with a lot of noise and stomping about, so any resident kiddos should be older and dog-savvy.
Since her arrival in foster care, Hattie has just about mastered the art of going potty outside; however, she is still a little uncertain about walking on a leash, so a securely fenced yard is necessary for her to get her exercise and do her business. And while she is content to stay in her crate for a few hours if her foster family leaves the house, she would definitely prefer a family where someone is home most of the day.
Hattie will take some time to warm up to her new people, but once she does, they’ll have a best friend for life. Well, we certainly don’t need any more convincing! If you think you can give Hattie her happily ever after, then please fill out an application to adopt and tell us why. Just be prepared for travel because Hattie is wagging her tail nubbin’ in beautiful Maryland, and will not be shipped.
FBRN dogs are in foster care in people’s private homes. For the foster families’ safety, we do not disclose specific locations, and we don’t set up meet and greets prior to applications. For detailed information about the dogs in our care, please read the extensive bios on each dog.
