“HoneyLemon has clearly had a very difficult life until she came to FBRN! However, she’s your typical kind, loving dog. She just doesn’t want to be alone. She never barks, but she does coo like a dove when excited or cold. She gives high fives when asked and is really the perfect dog! I have trained dogs for years and worked at many rescues. The concern people have is not knowing what training will be with an adopted dog who is older. Well, no fears on that! She is a dream!! Honestly, I couldn’t have asked for an easier foster. She deserves a family to call her own forever. She deserves to be spoiled after her difficult life. Although she is an older girl, you would never guess it! She has puppy energy when needed and does this insanely cute ‘dance’ when freed from her crate! She will need dental in the future and has the most adorable snaggle tooth! She loves giving only her person kisses but gives snuggles freely to everyone else. She dances when she meets new people and new dogs out of sheer excitement! HoneyLemon got her name from my 5-year-old daughter because in her words ‘she is everyone’s cup of tea’. Truly you couldn’t ask for a better baby than HoneyLemon (Honey as we call her)!”

Story
HoneyLemon (everyone’s cup of tea) came to FBRN from a shelter where she had been abandoned. It is clear that she’s had a few litters of pups, but we have no medical history and no true insight into her past life. That’s okay, sweet HoneyLemon is only looking forward and we can’t wait to see her flourish in her forever home!
During her time in foster care, we’ve learned that HoneyLemon has allergies, a sensitive stomach, and impaired hearing. She is receiving Cytopoint shots for those pesky allergies and her forever family should be prepared to continue that treatment. Her hearing loss is likely due to a history of ear infections that left her ears scarred on the inside. She currently has her ears cleaned twice weekly to prevent further infections and her forever family will need to be prepared to continue this routine. To be clear, HoneyLemon hears well enough – is that the crinkle of a bag of chips being opened – but her hearing is not at the same level as other dogs.
HoneyLemon’s all around happy personality outshines any of her medical issues. She just wants to be with her people and snuggle. She’s well behaved on and off leash. She is crate trained and does very well when her person is away from the home. During a rare lapse in judgement, she may have shown her discontent (at being left alone) by getting into the garbage and eating anything cardboard. At least while she’s settling in, it’s best if she’s crated or left in a dog-proof area.
In terms of treats and toys, cow hooves are number one followed closely by sweet potato treats and Blue Wilderness training treats. HoneyLemon has shown some resource guarding related to these high value items, limited to a growl or a warning snap at her foster puppy roommate. As always, slow introductions to resident dogs are a must and will set HoneyLemon up for success in her forever home.
HoneyLemon loves people and enjoy crowds or just one person. She is intelligent and eager to please, she doesn’t bark, and she knows basic commands! Being a Frenchie, she may choose not to comply, but she does know the basics. HoneyLemon is a smart girl who will thrive with a forever person who wants to continue her training.
HoneyLemon’s ideal home is where her people are around often. She loves kids and dogs. She would do well with first time Frenchie owners who are committed to her medical regimen. Her home environment is flexible – a city apartment or a country home would suit her just fine! HoneyLemon would do well in an office setting as the company greeter since she loves everyone she meets!
Here are a few words from HoneyLemon’s foster mom: “HoneyLemon has clearly had a very difficult life until she came to FBRN! However, she’s your typical kind, loving dog. If you’re ready for something sweet in your life, please consider applying for HoneyLemon today! Then get ready for a road trip because HoneyLemon prefers to travel by car.
FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo, so adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family. HoneyLemon would love to have you fill out an application and perhaps get to pick her up and take her to her forever home from snowy New York. Car travel is no problem for HoneyLemon.
FBRN dogs are in foster care in people’s private homes. For the foster families’ safety, we do not disclose specific locations and we do not set up meet and greets prior to applications. For detailed information about the dogs in our care, please read the extensive bios on each dog.
About HoneyLemon
HoneyLemon has several allergies and must remain on regular Cytopoint shots, Probiotics, Sensitive Stomach food, and have regular medicated baths.
HoneyLemon has a history of skin and ear infections, including Staph, that must be monitored for recurrence. It is possible she may be a candidate for TECA surgery in the future for her ears, which could leave her deaf.
HoneyLemon was a stray, and her medical history is mostly unknown.
HoneyLemon is a resource guarder. She must be monitored during feeding and when toys are present. A slow intro is required if there are other dogs in the home.
